West Lombok, en.SERU.co.id – West Lombok Regent Lalu Ahmad Zaini has been named a suspect following a dramatic KPK sting operation on Monday, July 20, 2026. He faces allegations of bribery, gratifications, and conflicts of interest related to government procurement projects.

Interestingly, just hours before his office were sealed, the regent was still enjoying a late-night World Cup final watch party with district officials.

Alongside Zaini, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) also named two other suspects: Sudirman, Director of PT Air Minum Giri Menang, and Alvonsus Gani, Director of PT Meconel Sistim Instrument. The trio is suspected of involvement in corrupt procurement deals, bribes, and receiving illicit payments within the West Lombok district government.

The operation began early Monday when investigators sealed the regent’s office and the workspace of Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (PUPRPK) head Lalu Ratnawo around 7:30 a.m. local time, shortly after the World Cup screening ended.

West Lombok Secretary Akhmad Saikhu, who had watched the match alongside the regent until early morning, said he only learned of the sealing when he arrived at the office.

“We were watching together until morning, then we all went home after the game,” Saikhu told reporters.

KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo confirmed that investigators secured 19 individuals during the operation. After initial questioning, eight people remain under examination — seven brought from Lombok and one private individual detained in Jakarta. Those from Lombok include Regent Zaini, Sudirman, Lalu Ratnawo, one private party, and three of the regent’s aides and drivers.

In response, the National Mandate Party (PAN) moved quickly, expelling Lalu Ahmad Zaini from the party and taking direct control of its West Nusa Tenggara provincial chapter, which he previously led.

PAN Deputy Chairman Viva Yoga Mauladi said the party fully supports the KPK’s investigation and called for a transparent, objective process.

“PAN allows the KPK to carry out its legal proceedings transparently, objectively, and accountably, all for the sake of justice,” he said.

Viva also issued a public apology over the alleged actions of their cadre and emphasized that PAN chairman Zulkifli Hasan has repeatedly urged all party members to reject corruption and maintain clean governance. (aan/mzm)
