La Plata, Argentina, en.SERU.co.id — The City Council of La Plata has officially declared BTS as Guests of Honor (Huéspedes de Honor), making the group the first K-pop act to receive the civic distinction in the Argentine city. The unanimous decision was made on Thursday (2/7/2026), just months ahead of the group’s highly anticipated concerts in the city.
This formal civic distinction, typically reserved for distinguished foreign visitors who have made notable cultural, scientific, or social contributions, marks a historic first for a K-pop act in La Plata.
Fan Power at the Heart of It
The honor didn’t come out of nowhere — it was driven by the passionate efforts of local BTS fans. The BTS La Plata Oficial fanbase worked for months alongside city councilwoman Melany Horomadiuk to push the proposal through.
During the council session, Horomadiuk addressed her colleagues warmly:
“I want to thank the Culture Commission and all its members… and everyone who voted unanimously for this decree. I also congratulate the members of the BTS La Plata Oficial fanbase who proposed declaring the South Korean band BTS as guests of honor.”
The recognition also reflects BTS’s influence beyond music, from inspiring young people to learn Korean to encouraging charitable activities led by local ARMY members.
Economic Boost and Cultural Celebration
City officials are clearly excited about the visit. Council President Gastón Castiglioni pledged full support for BTS’s stay and emphasized the expected economic benefits for local businesses from the three sold-out shows.
BTS will perform as part of their “Arirang” World Tour at Estadio Único de La Plata on October 21, 23, and 24, 2026. Organizers added a third date due to overwhelming demand, marking the group’s first full-group concerts in Argentina.
