Central Java, en.SERU.co.id – Central Java is ramping up its sport tourism efforts through a series of scenic trail running events, with the highly anticipated Muria Trail Run 2026 set to take center stage on August 1–2 in Desa Rahtawu, on the slopes of Mount Muria in Kudus Regency.

As part of the buildup, organizers hosted a “Road to Muria Trail Run” promotional event at Jatidiri Stadium in Semarang on Saturday, July 4, 2026. The gathering drew around 100 runners from 13 local running and trail communities and was officially opened by Central Java Provincial Secretary Sumarno.

Participants kicked things off with a lively 5K fun run before diving into a detailed introduction to the main event’s concept and unique appeal.

Sumarno welcomed the initiative, viewing it as a concrete step toward unlocking the province’s potential in sports tourism.

“We want similar events across all of Central Java. This is part of our push to build and grow sport tourism, which is becoming increasingly popular,” he said.

Event Director Yuda Kristiawan explained that this was the third promotional stop, following two earlier sessions in Kudus, now reaching runners in Semarang and surrounding areas. The event goes beyond tough natural terrain, embracing an Eco Green Sport Tourism concept under the theme “Stride for Sustainability.”

“Muria Trail Run isn’t just a race. We want participants to enjoy the beauty of the Mount Muria foothills while helping preserve its environment,” Yuda emphasized.

Now in its second year, the organizers are targeting more than 500 runners—double last year’s turnout. As of early July 2026, about 80% of the slots had already been filled, with registration still open until July 18. Distances on offer include 8K, 15K, 30K, and 45K, along with a special category for runners aged 40 and above.

This year’s edition carries the theme “Hajatan Rahtawu”, evoking a traditional village festival atmosphere. Runners will be welcomed with local culinary delights, traditional decorations, and active participation from residents. The goal is to ensure the local community feels direct economic benefits through homestays, transportation, food services, and other support needs.

“We don’t want locals to just be spectators. We want them involved, so the economic impact can be felt widely and spread throughout the community,” Yuda added.

Safety remains a top priority. Every participant receives insurance coverage, and organizers are reminding runners to choose a distance that matches their current fitness level. (gts/mzm)
