Malang, en.SERU.co.id — The Malang City Government has reaffirmed its strict ban on sound horeg, making it clear the prohibition remains in full effect, including during the upcoming Agustusan celebrations.
Mayor Dr. Ir. Wahyu Hidayat MM emphasized that there will be no exceptions, even after a recent sound horeg procession took place in Tunggulwulung Village. The ban now serves as a key guideline for all community events such as village clean-ups, carnivals, and other gatherings.
“Yes, it’s still not allowed. I already gave a warning about this yesterday because we have banned sound horeg,” Wahyu said on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.
He added that city officials have coordinated with village administrations to remind residents of the rule. While acknowledging differing opinions in the community, the mayor stressed that activities must stay within reasonable limits.
“We’ve reminded them, but some people still support it. The point is, we cannot allow it. Everything has to be kept reasonable,” he said.
Wahyu confirmed the same rules will apply throughout the series of Independence Day events, with no special dispensations.

Enforcement Through Coordination
Head of the Malang City Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), Heru Mulyono, explained that handling sound horeg cases involves cross-agency coordination. While direct enforcement falls under police authority due to public order concerns, Satpol PP officers actively monitor the field.
“We focus on education first if it’s still within our scope. If it escalates or crosses into broader issues, we report it to the Malang City Police (Polresta),” Heru said.
Regarding last year’s official circular on the ban, Heru noted that unless it specified an expiration date, the directive remains valid as an ongoing reference for the public. His team plans to reconfirm this with the Regional Agency for National Unity and Community Protection (Bakesbangpol).
The city’s firm stance aims to maintain peace and order during what is traditionally a festive period. (bas/mzm)
