Head of Bakorwil III Malang Asep Kusdinar SHut MH presented the strategic framework during a coordination meeting on Wednesday (15/7/2026) at Ruang Arjuno. He emphasized the need for stronger collaboration among regional leaders to unlock the southern region’s vast potential.

“Southern East Java is rich in natural resources, from sugarcane, coffee, and cocoa to agriculture and fisheries. Its geostrategic location also supports the development of green economy, blue economy, creative industries, culture, MSMEs, and coastal tourism along the Southern Cross Route (JLS),” Asep said.

He stressed that each area has its own unique strengths that must drive locally-rooted, sustainable growth.

Beyond Urban Expansion

The Malang Raya Megapolitan Roadmap (2026–2045) goes far beyond simply expanding urban boundaries. It aims to create new economic growth hubs anchored in the southern region’s natural advantages and improved inter-regional connectivity.

Key sectors being prioritized include sport tourism, which is expected to boost opportunities for local MSMEs, homestays, culinary businesses, and transportation services.

“This is a concrete step to drive development in southern East Java. We are building an inclusive, innovative, integrated, and sustainable megapolitan area,” Asep added.

The meeting brought together stakeholders from PHRI Malang Raya, JMSI Malang Raya, PWI Malang Raya, Formasy Praja Nusantara, Malang Peduli Demokrasi (MPD), and Bakorwil III staff.
