New York, en.SERU.co.id — Netflix dropped Office Romance today (5/6/2026), bringing Jennifer Lopez back to the romantic comedy genre that made her a star. This time, though, it’s a lot more grown-up and bolder than her earlier hits.

Directed by Ol Parker, the film was written specifically for Lopez by Brett Goldstein (Ted Lasso) and Joe Kelly. Goldstein has said they wouldn’t have made it without her.

“We wrote this for you… It’s a list of one,” he told Netflix Tudum.

What Makes It Stand Out

1.  A Workplace Rom-Com That’s Definitely Not Safe for Work

Unlike Lopez’s sweeter classics like Maid in Manhattan, this one carries an R rating for graphic nudity, strong sexual content, and plenty of swearing. Netflix is leaning into it with the tagline:

“This is a rom-com that’s not safe for work… but so worth the risk.”

Critics have called it more of a “raunchcom.” Pete Hammond at Deadline noted the over-the-top humor, including one particularly graphic birth scene.

2. Strong Chemistry Between Lopez and Goldstein

A lot of the early buzz centers on the spark between Lopez as Jackie Cruz, the no-nonsense CEO of AirCruz airlines, and Goldstein as Daniel Blanchflower, the charming new lawyer. Goldstein admitted he sometimes felt like he was being pranked just being on set with her. Lopez has praised him as one of her best leading men and highlighted their on-screen kisses.

3. A Powerful Latina CEO at the Center

Lopez plays a high-powered boss rather than someone just looking for love. She also produced the film through her Nuyorican Productions, giving it a more personal touch.

4. Realistic Workplace Romance Drama

The story digs into the company’s strict “no fraternization” policy and what happens when two workaholics break it. It follows their secret relationship and the messy fallout that comes with mixing business and pleasure.

Reviews so far are mixed. Some enjoy the fun energy and strong chemistry, while others find it a bit formulaic despite the raunchy elements. At around 94-114 minutes, it’s a quick watch that’s already available worldwide on Netflix.
