Malang, en.SERU.co.id — The Malang City Government is gearing up to open special Warung Tekan Inflasi (WTI) stalls as Eid al-Adha approaches, aiming to ease rising prices — particularly for chili, which has surged as high as Rp85,000 per kilogram.
Mayor Dr. Ir. Wahyu Hidayat MM said field monitoring shows chili prices remain well above the government’s reference price of Rp57,000 per kg.
“Chili is the one commodity still seeing price increases. I’ve already instructed the Trade and Industry Agency to open WTI stalls specifically for chili,” Wahyu said on Tuesday (26/5/2026).
Checks at several traditional markets revealed significant jumps. At Pasar Oro-oro Dowo, chili was selling for Rp85,000 per kg, while prices hovered around Rp70,000 at Pasar Tawangmangu and Pasar Bunulrejo.
To help bring prices down, the city plans to set up the WTI stalls at Pasar Blimbing and Pasar Dinoyo. Preparations are currently underway to ensure the program runs effectively.
Wahyu explained that the spike is largely due to seasonal harvest cycles and weather conditions, which have tightened supply.

“It really depends on the harvest season and the weather. Right now, we’re facing a shortage because not many farmers have harvested yet,” he said.
In addition to the market stalls, the city will also secure supplies through inter-regional cooperation with Malang Regency and Lumajang Regency. The volume of chili brought in will be adjusted according to market demand, while keeping prices aligned with the government reference to help stabilize the situation.
Regarding the timing, Wahyu said the administration is still processing the necessary paperwork for Unforeseen Expenditure (BTT) funds. Under new regulations, these funds must first be included in the regional agency’s budget implementation document.
“That’s why it will take around two days for the administrative process The stalls will likely open on Eid al-Adha or the day after. We hope this can prevent prices from climbing further,” he added. (bas/mzm)
