Jember, enSERU.co.id – A sea of people packed the Tanggul District Square and the route of the Tajemtra event. Thousands enthusiastically joined the traditional Tanggul-Jember walk known as Tajemtra 2026, which broke the record for the highest number of participants in its history.
A total of 25,613 participants took part in the 30-kilometer walk heading to Jember Square. This figure marks a sharp increase compared with Tajemtra 2024 (15,155 participants) and 2025 (15,171 participants).
“Based on data from the regional government offices, Tajemtra 2026 has the highest and largest number of participants since it was first held in the 1970s,” said Jember Regent Gus Fawait, as he is popularly known, on Saturday, September 5, 2026.
Behind the lively atmosphere, one moment drew special attention. Gus Fawait, who personally led the official start for the participants, was not in peak physical condition.
“I had just received intravenous treatment before heading to the location,” he said.
Yet the condition did not dampen his determination to be present and walk together with the residents.
“Earlier I was still on an IV drip. I told them I simply could not miss accompanying the people of Jember — from the sub-districts, community health centers, schools, hospitals and everyone,” he explained.

“I will walk with all of you. Let’s go together from here. We will strive all the way to Jember Square. As for the outcome, only God knows. But one thing is certain — we will set off together,” he added, drawing a wave of applause.
Gus Fawait also reminded participants to look after one another’s safety along the way and stressed the value of togetherness.
“If anyone faints, we must help each other, because the philosophy of Tajemtra is mutual cooperation. No need for long speeches — let’s just walk together,” he concluded. (sgt/mzm)
