Sidoarjo, en.SERU.co.id – The Sidoarjo Regency Government continues to accelerate the social safety net program and improvement of housing infrastructure for underprivileged residents. Ahead of the peak of the rainy season, Sidoarjo Regent Subandi went directly to inspect village alleys in Waru Subdistrict to hand over Social Assistance (Bansos) and review Unfit for Habitation Houses (RTLH) on Friday, October 23, 2026.
Regent Subandi said that handling of RTLH has become a priority that cannot be delayed. The reason is the threat of disease due to leaking roofs and poor sanitation during the rainy season.
“If there are residents who need a wheelchair or house repairs, the regional government will immediately step in. We feel sorry for residents whose houses are unfit. Especially ahead of the rainy season. Leaking roofs and puddles of water can cause the emergence of diseases,” said Regent Subandi.
This rapid response action targeted six beneficiaries spread across four villages. Namely Janti Village, Kureksari, Kedungrejo, and Bungurasih Village. Two families are confirmed to receive total house renovation assistance. Meanwhile four elderly and disabled residents received wheelchair assistance to support their mobility.
The humanitarian safari began with Regent Subandi in Janti Village around 9:30 a.m. WIB. There, he directly checked the house of Widada in RT 005 RW 002. The condition of this odd-job laborer’s house was truly concerning with a severely leaking roof and frequent flooding when rain falls.
Still in the same village, Regent Subandi handed over a 3-in-1 type wheelchair to Wati Soedjiati, a resident of RT 022 RW 002, as well as a standard wheelchair for Muhammad Zakaria, a resident of RT 003 RW 001.
The group then moved quickly to Kureksari Village to review the house of Umar Muroh, a resident of RT 002 RW 003, followed by the handover of a 3-in-1 type wheelchair in Kedungrejo Village for Soebodo, a resident of RT 005 RW 001. This series of social actions was closed in Bungurasih Village with the handover of a standard wheelchair to Sumini, a resident of RT 004 RW 001.
The physical rehabilitation process for those two houses, said Subandi, is scheduled to begin work in the first week of November 2026. Especially for Widada’s residence, the work is carried out comprehensively covering the elevation of the floor structure to prevent flood overflow and replacement of the roof using lightweight steel frames.
“Including ceiling repairs, ceramic installation up to bathroom sanitation repairs and the air ventilation system,” he said.

Not only focusing on the main recipients, the Sidoarjo Regency Government also distributed 10 packages of basic necessities each to neighboring residents at every visit location as a form of wider concern.
This assistance becomes a breath of fresh air as well as an oasis of happiness for the beneficiaries. Widada admitted he never expected that his dilapidated house would be repaired by the government.
“Because my income as an odd-job laborer is only enough for daily food,” he stressed.
Deep emotion was also felt by Sumini (60), a resident of Bungurasih Village. Her face lit up when receiving the standard wheelchair that she had long dreamed of. For the last three years, Sumini could only lie in bed due to the illness she suffered.
“For three years I have not been able to carry out activities. Every time I want to go to the bathroom, the family has to carry me. This wheelchair assistance is very helpful,” said Sumini full of emotion. (pan/ono)
