Windsor, en.SERU.co.id — Prince George will attend Eton College from September 2026, Kensington Palace has confirmed, following in the footsteps of his father, Prince William.

The 13-year-old royal, who previously attended Lambrook School with his siblings, will join the historic all-boys boarding school near Windsor.

A palace statement issued on June 16 said:

“Kensington Palace can confirm that Prince George will attend Eton College from this September.”

The announcement ended months of speculation over where George would continue his education. Sources close to the family said he received no preferential treatment during the admissions process.

According to an insider who spoke to Vanity Fair, the young prince “had to sit the exams just like every other applicant, and he is very proud to be starting in September.” The same source added that William and Catherine “are so pleased George is going to Eton and George is over the moon.”

Preparing for Eton

A source close to the family told People that “George has always wanted to follow in his dad’s footsteps.”

Royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith said Eton “was a much-needed haven for William” during his teenage years and “will give George a rigorous education that he will need for his role.”

William was reportedly particularly supportive of the decision. Royal commentator Charlotte Griffiths told Vanity Fair that William “was pushing hard for Eton,” while Catherine had reportedly considered Marlborough College, which she attended. The final decision was described as a joint choice by the couple.

Eton’s location, around a 15-minute drive from the family’s home at Forest Lodge in Windsor, was also seen as a practical advantage. George will board at the school while remaining relatively close to his family.

In the weeks before the new school year, William has reportedly been helping George prepare for the transition. A palace insider told Star magazine that William “believes wholeheartedly in the benefits of boarding school” and has shared practical advice about school life.

George had already experienced limited boarding at Lambrook, which was intended to help him adjust to boarding-school life.
