Greenville Police Department officers and emergency medical personnel responded to a 911 call placed by an acquaintance around 1:51 p.m. local time. Medical assistance was administered at the scene, but she was pronounced dead shortly afterward.

Authorities stated that the preliminary investigation has not indicated any signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances. The Greenville Police Department is handling the case in conjunction with the Greenville County Coroner’s Office. An autopsy is expected as the investigation continues. No official cause of death has been released.
Some media outlets reported that 911 dispatch audio referenced a possible overdose and cardiac arrest. Recent reports based on the dispatch recording indicate that emergency responders were called after Panettiere was reported unresponsive and in cardiac arrest. However, authorities have not confirmed an overdose as the cause of death, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Panettiere began acting as a young child and rose to prominence with roles in films such as Remember the Titans.
