Malang, en.SERU.co.id – Dewan Kampung Nuswantara (DKN) and several mass organizations have released a public perception survey on the planned operation of Trans Jatim Corridor 2 in Malang Raya. The results show strong backing, with around 90 percent of respondents supporting the plan.
DKN chairman Achmad Harun Al Rasid said safe, comfortable and affordable public transport remains a clear need for local residents. That is why his group supports the corridor’s launch.
“The survey proves that fears of social conflict on the roads are unfounded. Angkot drivers are ready to support Trans Jatim and the feeder scheme as long as their welfare is guaranteed through cooperatives,” Harun said at a press conference held at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang on Tuesday, 28 July 2026.
George Da Silva from the Political and Regional Autonomy Analysis Institute explained the detailed figures. Of 750 public transport users surveyed across Malang Raya, 90.9 percent backed the presence of Trans Jatim Corridor 2—54.5 percent agreed and 36.4 percent strongly agreed. The study used purposive random sampling and carries a 95 percent confidence level with a 3.57 percent margin of error.
Every respondent also supported the idea of angkot serving as feeders to main Trans Jatim bus stops. Support was especially clear for feeder routes linking residential areas and schools, including Sawojajar, Oro-Oro Dowo, Soekarno-Hatta, Sukun and Bumiayu.
Most angkot drivers and online motorcycle taxi riders expressed similar support. They believe the new corridor will not hurt their income if the feeder system is properly applied.
During the same event, DKN and the mass organization consortium offered three recommendations to the East Java provincial government and local administrations in Malang Raya. First, speed up the legal framework for driver cooperatives. Second, arrange routes carefully so they do not overlap with the main corridor. Third, expand dialogue with driver communities.

Binsar Garchah Siregar, head of the Malang regional UPT for land transport at the East Java Transportation Agency, said his office remains open to public input. Officials are still mapping possible bus stop locations and boarding points in Malang Regency.
“Everything is still at the exploration stage. Nothing is final yet because we still need to assess whether each point is truly needed by the community,” he explained.
The planned route in Malang Regency would link Terminal Hamid Rusdi to Bululawang, Gondanglegi and Kepanjen. Routes inside Malang City are still under discussion with city transport operators regarding the feeder system.
“Trans Jatim Corridor 2 is not meant to replace existing city transport. Instead, it aims to restore their role through the feeder system so both services support each other,” Siregar said.
Route decisions will follow actual mobility needs, taking into account access to residential areas, schools, health facilities, markets and places of worship.
If preparations stay on schedule, Trans Jatim Corridor 2 is targeted to start operations in October 2026. The initial fleet will consist of 15 buses—14 in regular service and one spare. (bas/mzm)
