Mumbai, en.SERU.co.id -Veteran Bollywood star Govinda has officially announced his return to the big screen after nearly seven years away from leading film roles. The actor-producer shared the exciting news during a press conference in Mumbai on Monday, July 14, 2026.
Govinda, whose last big-screen appearance was in the 2019 comedy Rangeela Raja, will star in and produce two new films: Roopa and Duniyadari. In Roopa, he will share the screen with newcomer Rani Swarnkar.
Speaking with visible enthusiasm at the event, Govinda teased more details to come.
“Now I’m ready. You’ll see the entire cast soon—we will be announcing it in our next meet. Audience will see a lot of newcomers from UP and Maharashtra,” he said.
Both projects are deliberately crafted with younger audiences in mind.
“Roopa and Duniyadari will be a different kind of films, especially made for youngsters. Because youngsters start out with a lot of expectations, but sometimes they get lost. I’m going to show the part of Maya that we can in this film. Youngsters shouldn’t feel like people lost in the crowd. They should be confident and grounded to their roots,” Govinda explained.
The actor also reflected candidly on the ups and downs of his career, acknowledging that many had written him off.
“Maybe it was destiny that I was written off many times. People said that now he will not appear in films. I start again. And I pray to God that what I have thought and what people cannot think, this film works its magic,” he shared.
Roopa holds special significance for Govinda as it features one of the strongest female leads, he has worked with in recent years. He also noted the symbolic luck of the number 14, which matched the date of the announcement.

A beloved icon of 1990s Bollywood, Govinda rose to massive fame with blockbuster comedies such as Coolie No. 1, Hero No. 1, Saajan Chale Sasural, and Haseena Maan Jaayegi. His career slowed in the 2000s, during which he also served as a Member of Parliament for the Indian National Congress from 2004 to 2009.
The announcement has been warmly received by many fans, who are eager to see Govinda return to the big screen.
Full cast details and release dates for both Roopa and Duniyadari are expected to be revealed at the next press event.
