Malang, en.SERU.co.id – Around 700 runners took part in the Selorejo Run Challenge (SRC) 2026 organized by Perum Jasa Tirta I (PJT I) at Waduk Selorejo in Ngantang, Malang Regency, on Sunday, 9 August 2026. The event served as a collaboration between PJT I, local communities, and small businesses to introduce the reservoir and support nearby UMKM.
PJT I President Director Fahmi Hidayat explained that the run carried the theme “Run with View” and the spirit of JEJAK, short for Jaga Ekosistem, Jaga Air Kita (Protect the Ecosystem, Protect Our Water). It combined sport, tourism, and environmental education as a way for the company to bring water resource management closer to the public through fun, participatory activities.
“Through the Selorejo Run Challenge, we want people not only to come and run but also to get to know Waduk Selorejo better and understand why protecting water ecosystems matters. A reservoir is more than just water infrastructure. It is part of the community’s living space, and we need to safeguard its sustainability together,” Fahmi said.
The 2026 edition was one of PJT I’s flagship programs marking Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day. Participants chose between 8 km and 17 km courses that wound through the reservoir area and surrounding landscape, giving runners both a scenic experience and a closer look at an important water management site.
Fahmi said the JEJAK slogan encourages every participant to leave a positive mark on the environment.
“We want the message of protecting water to grow into shared awareness. The better people know a water resource area, the stronger their sense of ownership and care for it becomes,” he added.
Beyond the environmental message, organizers hoped the event would benefit communities living around the reservoir. The presence of hundreds of runners from various communities boosted local economic activity and created opportunities for UMKM to take part and gain from the gathering.
Fahmi stressed that involving the community was central to the event. Through collaboration among the company, government, running groups, UMKM operators, and residents, PJT I aimed to deliver positive environmental, social, and economic results.

“This activity is a moment of collaboration between PJT I and the community. We want events held in the areas we manage to create added value, including for local UMKM and businesses. The benefits should reach not only the participants but also the people who live and work around Waduk Selorejo,” he said.
Event chair Irfan Ferdiantana thanked everyone who supported the challenge from preparation through race day. He noted that strong cooperation made the smooth running of the event possible.
“We express our gratitude and appreciation to all parties who gave their support from the planning stage to the execution of Selorejo Run Challenge 2026. Collaboration was essential for the event to go well,” Irfan said.
He also praised the enthusiasm of the roughly 700 runners. The high turnout, he added, showed the potential of nature-based sports events to become platforms for cooperation while introducing Waduk Selorejo to a wider audience.
“We thank all the participants who joined Selorejo Run Challenge 2026. We hope the experience of running around the reservoir leaves a lasting impression and that they take home the message of protecting the environment and water resources together,” Irfan said. (rhd)
