Seoul, en.SERU.co.id – South Korean trot singer Jang Yoon-jung has once again been drawn into headlines after her estranged mother became the subject of a new fraud investigation, reviving a family dispute that has lasted for more than a decade.

Timeline of the Conflict

2013
Jang revealed on SBS’s Healing Camp that her mother and younger brother had allegedly squandered nearly a decade of her earnings, leaving her with massive debts. She discovered the situation during her parents’ divorce proceedings and later sold assets to settle obligations. Her mother and brother denied the claims and appeared on television to defend themselves.

2013–2014
Yook sued Jang’s former agency, Inwoo Production, claiming ownership of her daughter’s earnings and demanding repayment of a supposed 700 million KRW loan. The Seoul Central District Court ruled against her in June 2014, stating that managing the finances did not grant legal ownership.

2015
The mother continued public attacks, including unsubstantiated claims against Jang. The singer proceeded with her wedding to announcer Do Kyung-wan without her mother’s involvement and maintained a complete severance of ties.

2018
Yook was arrested for fraud after allegedly borrowing 415 million KRW from an acquaintance between 2015 and 2017 without repayment. She was later diagnosed with terminal liver cancer and granted parole for treatment.

June 30, 2026
JTBC’s Crime Chief reported that Yook is accused of investment fraud. She allegedly convinced a victim met at a jjimjilbang to hand over tens of millions of KRW by promising profits linked to Miss Trot, using fabricated KakaoTalk messages that appeared to involve Jang Yoon-jung. A second similar complaint has been filed, and police are investigating.

Jang, 46, continues her successful career and family life with husband Do Kyung-wan, while keeping distance from her mother and brother. The latest case remains under investigation, and no final court ruling has been issued regarding the latest allegations.
