Seoul, en.SERU.co.id — Actors Kim Se-jeong, Bae Hyun-sung, and Jo Han-gyul have been officially cast as the leads in the webtoon-adapted drama 여고생왕후 (High School Queen/The Queen Goes to High School (working title)).

According to an exclusive report from News1 on Friday (19/6/2026), Jo Han-gyul has joined the lead cast, following the previous announcements regarding Kim Se-jeong and Bae Hyun-sung.

“Jo Han-gyul has joined the lead role in the new drama Yeogosaeng Wanghu,” wrote reporter Yoon Hyo-jeong of News1.

The project is being produced by Studio Dragon in collaboration with Jaedam Media. It blends fantasy, action, and romance in a reincarnation story that fans of the original webtoon have long anticipated.

The drama follows Kim Cheong-ha, a legendary queen and master swordswoman from the Joseon era who meets a tragic end due to palace intrigue. She awakens in the body of Park Da-jin, an ordinary (often bullied) high school girl in modern-day Korea. Using her formidable combat skills and unyielding spirit from the past, she turns the tables on her tormentors while navigating the unfamiliar world of contemporary teenage life.

Studio Dragon has said it plans to keep the webtoon’s signature “cathartic” action sequences intact while expanding the romantic elements that connect the Joseon past with the present.

Production Outlook

Filming is expected to begin around August 2026, with a potential release in 2027 on tvN and streaming platform TVING. Additional casting details and the director’s name are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

The combination of a well-loved webtoon IP, solid lead actors, and Studio Dragon’s production muscle has already generated buzz among K-drama fans, though some online discussions note mixed reactions to the male lead pairings. Still, many are excited to see how the story’s blend of revenge, romance, and reincarnation translates to the screen.

We’ll be keeping an eye on further updates from reliable outlets like Allkpop, Soompi, and News1 as development continues.
