Malang, en.SERU.co.id – The area affected by the forest and land fire in the Gunung Bromo tourist zone continues to shrink. CCTV monitoring on Friday morning, 14 August 2026, at 6.00 am WIB showed no new fire points or plumes of smoke across the popular East Java natural attraction.
Head of the East Java Provincial Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Gatot Soebroto, said field monitoring confirmed that firefighting efforts inside Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) are steadily improving. Although the situation has shown positive results, teams will keep working until every remaining ember is extinguished.
“CCTV monitoring of Bromo shows no new fire points or smoke plumes. The joint team plans to continue ground sweeps to ensure there are no active fire points or remaining embers,” Gatot said.
The sweeps aim to locate any leftover flames in the Bromo area. If residual fire or smoke is found, crews will move in immediately to extinguish it.
“Extinguishing is carried out using manual methods (gepyok), backpack power sprayers (blower sprayers), fire trucks, Komodo tactical vehicles and water tanker trucks across all reachable areas,” he explained.
The total burned area has now reached 1,120.3 hectares and has affected mountain pine, Mentigen, acacia and shrub vegetation.

Gatot added that his office continues regular coordination with surrounding district and city BPBD offices as well as BMKG Juanda until the Bromo area is declared completely free from the threat of further fires.
To reach steep and inaccessible terrain, three helicopters remain on standby for aerial firefighting. Water-dropping operations will focus on critical spots such as Seruni Bromo, Bukit Kingkong and Bukit Cinta whenever residual smoke or active fire points appear.
In support of the ongoing firefighting operations and visitor safety, the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Authority is still keeping all tourist access gates to Gunung Bromo temporarily closed. The closure has been in place since Saturday evening, 8 August 2026, and will continue until further notice. (wul/ono)
