Malang, en.SERU.co.id — Four dedicated tourism figures from Malang Regency have earned spots in the national top 50 for the Local Hero in Tourism 2026 awards, highlighting the region’s growing reputation for innovative and community-focused tourism development.
The achievement underscores how Malang’s tourism players are going beyond simply boosting visitor numbers. They are actively empowering local communities, preserving cultural heritage, protecting the environment, and strengthening regional identity.
Firmando H. Matondang, Head of Malang Regency’s Tourism and Culture Department, expressed pride in the recognition.
“They have shown that tourism development isn’t just about increasing arrivals, but also about real contributions to society, culture, and the environment,” he said.
The department has consistently supported these efforts through training programs, mentoring, promotion, human resource development, and stronger collaboration with various stakeholders. Firmando hopes the success will inspire more local players — from tourism villages and Pokdarwis groups to creative economy actors and young people — to innovate and build high-quality, inclusive, and sustainable tourism.
“This achievement should motivate everyone to keep collaborating and creating meaningful impacts. We’re optimistic that Malang will continue to produce new Local Heroes who bring pride to the region while improving community welfare,” he added.
The recognition is also expected to further enhance Malang’s image as one of Indonesia’s premier tourism destinations, rich in natural beauty, culture, and creative potential.
