Seoul, en.SERU.co.id – South Korean actor Ji Chang-wook is under scrutiny after tax authorities hit him with a significant additional tax bill.
According to reports on June 2, 2026, Seoul Regional Tax Office’s Investigation Bureau 2 carried out a special non-routine tax probe on the actor back in March. The review focused on how he reported income from both domestic and international projects, including appearance fees and expenses handled through his one-person agency.
The National Tax Service has now ordered him to pay tens of billions of won in additional taxes.
In an official statement released today through his agency, Spring Company, Ji Chang-wook’s team expressed regret over the public concern.
“We are truly sorry for causing worry to many people. However, we want to make it clear that there was absolutely no intentional omission of income or illegal tax evasion,” the statement read.
The agency explained that the issue stems from differing interpretations of tax law, particularly whether certain earnings should be classified as personal income or company income under the “actual taxation principle.”

They added that Ji Chang-wook respects the tax office’s findings and will pay the full additional amount without delay. The statement also noted that he has maintained a clean tax record since his debut in 2008.
This kind of tax dispute isn’t uncommon for Korean stars who run their own one-person agencies. Authorities have been tightening oversight on high-earning entertainers in recent years.
So far, there’s no sign that the matter will affect his current work. Ji Chang-wook is busy promoting his new film Gunche alongside Jun Ji-hyun.
