Malang, en.SERU.co.id— The Malang City Legislative Council (DPRD Kota Malang) is celebrating its 112th anniversary with a series of modest yet meaningful activities, including charity for orphans and a candid evaluation of its legislative performance as the voice of the people.

Chairperson of the Malang City DPRD, Amithya Ratnanggani Sirraduhita SS (commonly known as Mia), said the celebration began with financial assistance and gifts distributed to 112 orphaned children. The event symbolises the council’s commitment to staying close to the community and expressing gratitude on this historic milestone.

“We invited 112 orphans to share happiness with us so that DPRD becomes closer to the people. This is also our way of giving thanks as we turn 112 years old,” Mia told reporters on Tuesday (March 31, 2026).

She explained that this year’s anniversary was deliberately kept simple, featuring a joint prayer session as an expression of thanksgiving. The occasion was also used as a moment for self-evaluation after nearly two years in office.

“This is a turning point for evaluation, contemplation, and self-reflection. We realise there are still many shortcomings that we must improve in the future,” she said.

Mia expressed hope that the DPRD will become even more responsive to public aspirations and better translate community input into policies that genuinely benefit the people.

She acknowledged that public satisfaction with the DPRD’s performance still needs improvement. Therefore, the council is opening wide channels for criticism and constructive feedback from residents.

“We still have a lot of homework to do. We hope the public will proactively give us evaluations and constructive criticism so we can continue to improve,” she added.

To accommodate public input, the DPRD uses both conventional and digital channels, including letters, face-to-face meetings, and social media platforms such as Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok.

“We accept all aspirations. Going forward, we will also intensify the dissemination of our performance and policies so the public better understands the impact of every decision we make,” Mia said.

Stronger Synergy with City Government to Accelerate Development

Deputy Mayor of Malang, Ali Muthohir, extended congratulations on the DPRD’s 112th anniversary. He hopes the synergy between the legislative and executive branches will grow stronger to support regional development.

“May the Malang City DPRD become even closer to the people. At 112 years old, may it be more aspirational and continue to champion the interests of the community,” he said.

Ali emphasised that this moment of reflection aligns with Malang City’s development spirit under the theme Ngalam Melintas, Bergerak Tuntas, Ngalam Berkelas. He noted that ongoing issues such as flooding and traffic congestion are shared responsibilities that must be resolved.

“All the commitments outlined in the RPJMD will be completed within this one term. This is the spirit of reflection at the 112th anniversary, and it will continue to be monitored by the DPRD,” he stressed.

He also encouraged the DPRD to create even broader spaces for public aspirations, including greater use of digital technology so residents can easily voice their needs and hopes.

“We need a shared space that utilises technology so that public aspirations can be conveyed more widely and quickly,” Ali concluded. (bas/rhd)
