Los Angeles, en.SERU.co.id — Simon Cowell will miss several weeks of America’s Got Talent live shows while undergoing a routine back procedure, his representative confirmed.

Cowell, 66, is stepping away during Season 21 of the NBC talent competition. His spokesperson told Entertainment Weekly that the procedure is routine and that the longtime judge and series creator is expected to return in a few weeks.

The procedure is related to Cowell’s ongoing back issues and is not considered an emergency or a new serious health concern.

Cowell Misses Live Shows

Cowell appeared at the beginning of America’s Got Talent’s live quarterfinals on August 18 but was absent from the August 25 performance episode.

Host Terry Crews addressed his absence during the broadcast, explaining that Cowell was undergoing an operation that “cannot be postponed” but was not an emergency.

“Simon, we are sending you our very best wishes for a speedy recovery,” Crews said.

Production is expected to use guest judges while Cowell recovers. Their identities have not yet been announced.

Cowell has experienced back problems since an electric bike accident at his Malibu home in August 2020. The accident left him with multiple spinal fractures and required extensive surgery.

America’s Got Talent continues its live shows while Cowell recovers. He is expected to return to the judges’ desk within several weeks.
