Seoul, en.SERU.co.id — YG Entertainment announced a special Meet and Greet for Blackpink’s 10th debut anniversary on August 6, 2026. The announcement drew sharp criticism from Blinks across social media.
The event is scheduled for August 8 in Seoul and limited to just 40 selected fans. Many fans have criticized its small scale and short notice.
Many Blinks voiced strong disappointment after the official notice stated that only “some members depending on their schedules” would attend. Speculation quickly spread that the full group might not appear together.
Furthermore, fans criticized the event’s limited capacity, with some arguing that even a larger gathering would have been more appropriate for the group’s 10th anniversary. Others said they had hoped for a broader celebration rather than a small private event.
Eligibility rules added to the frustration. Only Weverse members active before July 31, 2026, could apply, and the registration window lasted roughly nine hours. Some longtime fans who had let their memberships lapse due to limited group activity on the platform felt excluded.
Online Anger Escalates into Incident at YG Headquarters
The online criticism intensified and spilled over into a real-world incident. On the evening of August 6, a woman in her 20s was arrested after striking the glass entrance of YG Entertainment’s headquarters in Hapjeong-dong, Seoul, with a golf club. Videos of the scene circulated widely. Mapo police took her into custody around 9 p.m. local time.
Authorities are still investigating the motive. Online speculation subsequently linked the incident to fan frustration over the anniversary preparations, but no official connection between the incident and the event had been established.
Agency Statements Ease Some Speculation
In response to rumors about member absences, The Black Label, Rosé’s agency, released an official statement:
“False information and unverified speculation regarding Rosé’s personal schedule and her attendance at the debut anniversary event have been spreading online. Rosé has long prioritized this occasion so she can share a meaningful moment with fans. All necessary arrangements were secured well in advance.”
The clarification eased speculation over whether the group would appear together. YG Entertainment later confirmed that all four members — Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa — will attend.
“After checking with the respective labels, we have confirmed that all four members will be present,” said a company representative.
While the full-group confirmation eased some concerns, criticism of the event’s limited scale and last-minute nature continues. Many Blinks maintain that a gathering of only 40 fans falls short of what a global act like Blackpink deserves for its 10-year milestone.
The Meet and Greet proceeds as planned on August 8 with the 40 selected fans. YG is also preparing additional special content for those unable to attend in person.
