Malang, en.SERU.co.id — The mystical world and digital creative scene in Malang Raya are stepping into a new era. On the spiritually charged night of 1 Suro in the Javanese calendar for 2026, a fresh platform for mystery and horror storytellers was officially launched.

The community was initiated by a familiar name in Bumi Arema: Anton Kenang. For those who grew up in the ’80s and ’90s, Anton is best remembered as the veteran radio host who popularized the cult program Keramat on the legendary Andalus FM 91.1 MHz.

Now, after decades on the airwaves, Anton is taking that same spirit of the supernatural into the digital realm. He gathered local horror creators because he believes Malang is rich with urban legends and old folklore that deserve modern, high-quality treatment.

“Back then on radio, we relied only on voice and the listeners’ imagination. Today, technology gives us so much more — podcasts, cinematic YouTube videos, short-form content on TikTok and Snack Video. This community exists to bring local creators together, so they don’t have to work in isolation,” Anton said during an interview at Pro 4 RRI Malang, where he currently works.

The timing of the launch on 1 Suro (Tuesday, June 16, 2026) was deliberate, aligning with a night traditionally associated with reflection, spirituality, and the preservation of Javanese culture. Anton stressed that the goal of their horror content goes far beyond cheap scares.

“Our main purpose is education and passing on local wisdom. These stories are valuable heritage for our children and grandchildren, so they stay connected to their cultural roots and help build a cultured Indonesia. Through these tales, we’re reminded to uphold ethics and interact wisely with all of God’s creations,” he said.

The community has set an ambitious vision: “Konten Horor Malang, Malang Mendunia” — Malang Horror Content Goes Global. The aim is not just to entertain locals but to produce work that can compete on international platforms while carrying the noble values of Nusantara.

At the heart of the movement is a philosophy called “KERAMAT,” which Anton described as:

“The journey into space and time is a choice, and that journey itself requires extraordinary faith. When you reach that point, the boundaries of understanding and belief become blurred. There is no more suggestion, no logic left behind. All that remains is the realization: I am not alone here. Yes, here and there lies the vastness and depth of a divine gift.”

With strong spiritual foundations, the community has already outlined several flagship programs. These include in-depth explorations of Malang’s colonial history, folk tales, and local myths — backed by serious research rather than gimmicks or reckless dares (what locals call kemendel).

It will also serve as a collaborative hub for creators across platforms — podcasters, YouTubers, thread writers, and even local supernatural investigators. Additional plans include training sessions on audio production, horror cinematography, and storytelling techniques that appeal to global audiences without abandoning local cultural essence.

Anton emphasized that all content must respect local customs and avoid exploiting sources. He hopes the group will become a new benchmark for culturally grounded horror content in Indonesia.

“For those of you who love mystery stories, prepare to witness gripping works born from the womb of Bumi Arema. Sacred greetings!” Anton Kenang concluded. (dik/mzm)
