Malang, en.SERU.co.id – The East Java provincial government is offering vehicle tax relief to online motorcycle taxi drivers from lower-income households as a gift marking Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day.

Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa said the program runs across the entire province and places no limit on the number of vehicles a family can register, provided the drivers meet the eligibility criteria.

“This is a gift for the 81st Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia and applies throughout East Java. There is no maximum number of vehicles per family. We hope this Independence Day becomes a shared moment of happiness,” Khofifah said.

She added that tax-relief services will expand to more areas throughout August 2026. Mobile units are also operating so residents can complete the process more easily.

The government has set no target for the number of beneficiaries. Officials simply want as many eligible drivers as possible to take advantage of the opportunity while the program is running.

“Building the next stage of our unitary state will require mutual cooperation, struggle, and everyone working hand in hand,” Khofifah said.

One recipient, Faiza, an online driver from Dinoyo in Malang, said the relief has made a real difference. She had fallen three years behind on her vehicle tax because of tight finances.

Her original bill stood at around Rp600,000. After the relief, she paid only Rp295,000.

“I actually wanted to pay the tax, but money was tight. I put my children’s education first. Before I knew it, three years had passed,” she said.

Quiet order volumes had made it hard to keep up with the payments, so she prioritized household needs and school costs. She learned about the program through her online-driver community. The requirements were straightforward: show an active online-driver account and the matching vehicle registration.

Besides the tax relief, Faiza also received a basic food package, a free health check, and a Red-and-White flag. She hopes similar support will continue because it genuinely helps families like hers. (ws15/rhd)
