Palermo, Italy, en.SERU.co.id — Dua Lipa and Callum Turner’s lavish three-day wedding in Palermo, Sicily, sparked controversy among local residents. They reportedly offered £5,000 (approximately Rp100–110 million) in compensation to residents who caused disruption.

The couple, who quietly tied the knot in a civil ceremony at London’s Old Marylebone Town Hall on May 31, 2026, threw a bigger celebration in Palermo and nearby Bagheria from June 5 to 7. Venues included the historic Villa Valguarnera, Villa Igiea, the Galleria d’Arte Moderna, and several public squares in the city center. Estimates put the cost of the festivities at £1.3–1.5 million.

The events caused noticeable disruption for locals. Several piazzas were closed to the public, traffic was restricted, extra parking was set up, and security was tight. Some residents voiced frustration, putting up posters that read “Palermo is not for rent” and “Our square is not your living room.” When posters were torn down, graffiti appeared in their place.

According to The Sun, the £5,000 went to people living near the extra parking zones and other heavily impacted areas. A source told the newspaper:

“It doesn’t really match the idyllic love story vibe that Dua seems to be going for.”

It was seen as an attempt to ease tensions. The couple also paid around £9,000 to rent the Galleria d’Arte Moderna and made similar contributions to local authorities in Bagheria for use of Villa Valguarnera.

Reactions in Palermo have been mixed. While some locals are unhappy about losing access to public spaces, others welcome the attention and economic boost the high-profile event brought to the city. Guests reportedly included Charli XCX, Donatella Versace, and others.

As of Saturday (6/6/2026), the celebrations were still underway. Neither Dua Lipa nor Callum Turner has issued an official statement on the local backlash.
