Seoul, en.SERU.co.id — Samsung Electronics has rejected allegations by pop star Dua Lipa that it used her photograph without authorization on TV packaging, saying the image was cleared through a third-party content partner.
The British singer filed a federal lawsuit in California last Friday seeking at least $15 million in damages. She accuses Samsung of copyright infringement, trademark violation, and unauthorized use of her likeness on cardboard boxes for Crystal UHD televisions sold across the United States in 2025.
In a statement issued Tuesday, Samsung said:
“The image was used only after receiving explicit assurance from the content partner that permission had been secured, including for the retail boxes.”
The company added that the photo — taken backstage at the 2024 Austin City Limits Festival — was originally supplied by a partner for its Samsung TV Plus streaming service. Samsung claims it halted production of the disputed boxes in July 2025 after receiving complaints from Lipa’s team.

“We have actively sought and remain open to a constructive resolution with Ms. Lipa’s team,” the company said.
Lipa’s lawsuit, however, contends that Samsung ignored repeated cease-and-desist demands and acted in a “dismissive and callous” manner. Her team maintains she owns the copyright to the image and never consented to its commercial use.
The case is still in its preliminary stage in U.S. federal court. No immediate response from Lipa’s representatives to Samsung’s latest statement has been made public.
