Jakarta, en.SERU.co.id – Roy Suryo laughed when Jokowi showed his original diploma in the trial of the alleged fake diploma case at East Jakarta District Court on Thursday, November 5, 2026. Roy assessed that the document differed from the diploma dated December 15 that he had previously seen. His legal counsel also questioned the figure of the National Police Chief who was in office when Jokowi’s report was processed.
In his statement, Jokowi emphasized that he only has one diploma for each level of education. Starting from elementary school up to higher education. He also mentioned that his bachelor’s diploma has undergone examination by the National Police forensic laboratory.
“Have not yet seen the original diploma yet already saying it is fake, what is the thinking logic like,” said Jokowi, as quoted from Kompas.com on Thursday, November 5, 2026.
According to Jokowi, that examination stated that his diploma document is identical and authentic. Namely after being compared with diplomas belonging to a number of his classmates.
In addition to the diploma, Jokowi also provided an explanation regarding the thesis that became one of the objects of debate. He emphasized that the document he compiled is a skripsi (undergraduate thesis), not a tesis (master’s thesis) as had been questioned in a number of accusations.
“After a slight revision, that skripsi I printed at Percetakan Perdana. With a cover and approval sheet by Percetakan Perdana. Then the other pages I did with manual typing,” he explained.
Regarding the use of the Times New Roman font, which was questioned because it was considered not yet available in 1985. Jokowi said that the printing house had used a similar format for many other skripsi.
“Thousands of skripsi printed at Percetakan Perdana are all also like that and possible. Not only my skripsi, Your Honor,” he said.

Roy Suryo Briefly Laughed
On the other hand, Roy Suryo questioned the authenticity of the document shown by Jokowi in the courtroom. He even briefly laughed before delivering his objection. He claimed to have special attention to the characteristics of documents and photos because he has long been involved in the world of photography and printing.
According to him, the diploma shown by Jokowi in the trial differed from the document dated December 15 that had previously been shown. He highlighted a number of parts, starting from the physical condition of the document, the presence of emboss up to the watermark.
“Yes first of all, I earlier laughed and immediately delivered with the words fake. Why? I strongly agree with Mas Refly (regarding the different diploma shown during the case presentation),” said Roy during the trial break.
Roy also claimed that the watermark on the document dated December 15 looked clearer compared to the document shown in the trial. He stated he would re-examine a number of files that according to him have differences between the photo and the document.
Questioning Forensic Laboratory Results
Roy’s legal advisor asked for the names of the Metro Jaya Regional Police Chief up to the National Police Chief who was in office when that report was made and Jokowi’s diploma was examined by the forensic laboratory. However, Jokowi delivered an objection to that question. He assessed it was not directly related to the case being tried.
