Jakarta, en.SERU.co.id – MR alias Bos Gendut, the drug kingpin of Kampung Bahari, was arrested by the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) at a beauty salon in Mangga Besar, West Jakarta, on Wednesday evening, 12 August 2026. Officers seized cash amounting to Rp1.277 billion and assets valued at around Rp39.9 billion. The arrest was followed by a raid on Kampung Bahari that met resistance from MR’s loyalists.
Director of Enforcement and Pursuit at the BNN Deputy for Eradication, Brigadier General Roy Hardi Siahaan, said the arrest was not accidental. Officers had been tracking MR after he left Kampung Bahari. The pursuit ended around 8.09 pm WIB when they ambushed him at the salon.
“Around 8.09 pm WIB, officers ambushed him at a beauty salon in the Mangga Besar area. He was with someone who has already been secured by BNN,” Roy said, as quoted by Kompas.com on Thursday, 13 August 2026.
MR was no stranger to authorities. He had been a wanted suspect since November 2025 in a drug case involving 98 kilograms of methamphetamine, firearms and gold bars.
“MR or Bos Gendut is a fugitive linked to a drug case on 7 November 2025. He is the drug kingpin or drug boss based in Kampung Bahari,” Roy stated.
From Drugs to Suspected Money Laundering
MR’s arrest opened a wider investigation. BNN is not only pursuing the narcotics case but is also examining suspected money-laundering offences connected to his activities. Investigators seized Rp1.277 billion in cash and traced assets with a total estimated value of about Rp39.950 billion.
The story did not end at the salon. During questioning, MR provided information about several people believed to be part of his network. That information led to a joint operation by BNN and the Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) in Kampung Bahari on Thursday morning, 13 August 2026.
Officers swept the area, long associated with drug trafficking reports. Evidence recovered included marijuana or gorilla cannabis, cash, firearms, a samurai sword, ammunition, mobile phones and a car.
Raid Meets Resistance
Several of MR’s loyalists attacked officers during the raid. One National Police member suffered an injury below the eye.
“There was resistance from several of MR’s loyalists, including people based in Kampung Bahari. As a result, one of our members, a National Police officer, was injured below the eye,” Roy said.
Two people were detained in the operation, including an individual referred to as Bos G.

Raid Disrupts Commuter Line Service
On Thursday morning, crowds of residents near the railway tracks disrupted Commuter Line Tanjung Priok services. A train approaching Tanjung Priok Station around 6.20 am WIB was delayed because the tracks could not be cleared. Officers later secured the line, and the tracks were declared safe again at 7.01 am WIB.
KAI Commuter Public Relations Manager Leza Arlan said the disruption caused several Tanjung Priok Commuter Line services to run 16 to 30 minutes late, with total delays reaching 90 minutes.
Kampung Bahari Before the Drug Label
Kampung Bahari is a residential area in Tanjung Priok District, North Jakarta. Its proximity to Tanjung Priok Port has long tied it to the rhythms of port-related economic activity. Port workers, fishermen and traders live in the neighborhood. As port operations grew, the surrounding settlement expanded and developed a diverse social life. Small trading stalls selling food, clothing and daily necessities appeared amid everyday community activity, and Kampung Bahari became a lived space for local residents.
Reports of drug-related crime in the area began appearing in 2013. One notable case occurred on 8 November 2013, when police arrested two residents identified as JN (48) and HR (31) on suspicion of distributing marijuana. The drugs were allegedly supplied to groups operating around Tanjung Priok, with supplies said to come from regions including Sumatra and Cianjur. That arrest marked one of the points at which authorities began paying closer attention to Kampung Bahari. The name of the neighborhood has since appeared more frequently in news coverage of raids, dealer arrests and suspected drug networks. (aan/mzm)
