Purwokerto, en.SERU.co.id – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has secured the rector and two vice rectors of Universitas Jenderal Soedirman (Unsoed) in a sting operation (OTT) in Purwokerto, Central Java. The operation is allegedly linked to bribery in the admission of new students, with evidence including hundreds of millions of rupiah in cash. Unsoed has stated that it is still waiting for an official explanation from KPK and has not yet taken a position on the case.
KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo confirmed that a closed investigation was carried out in Purwokerto. He said the Unsoed rector was one of the parties secured.
“This closed investigation is related to alleged receipts by state organizers in the admission of new students. The evidence secured includes cash amounting to hundreds of millions of rupiah,” Budi said, as quoted by Kompas.com on Friday, 21 August 2026.
14 People Secured
In the series of the sting operation, KPK initially secured 14 people. Twelve people were secured in the Purwokerto area, while two others were secured in Jakarta.
Of the 12 people taken to Banyumas City Police for examination, KPK then brought seven people to Jakarta. Thus, a total of nine people is undergoing further examination by KPK.
Nevertheless, all parties who were secured still hold the status of examinees. KPK has 1 x 24 hours from the time the sting operation was carried out to determine and announce their legal status.
Three Unsoed Leaders Caught in Sting Operation
KPK also updated information regarding the Unsoed leadership ranks caught in the operation. Budi revealed that two vice rectors were secured. They are Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Norman Arie Prayogo and Vice Rector for General Affairs and Finance Prof. Kuat Puji Prayitno.
With the latest information, three Unsoed leaders have been confirmed as being caught in the sting operation. They are Unsoed Rector Prof. Akhmad Sodiq, Prof. Norman Arie Prayogo and Prof. Kuat Puji Prayitno.

Unsoed Awaits KPK Explanation
The Unsoed side said it is still waiting for an official explanation from KPK regarding the case being handled. Unsoed Spokesperson Edi Santoso said the campus does not yet know for certain the case that forms the basis of the examination.
“We ourselves do not yet know exactly what the case is and what the legal status of the people who were then taken there is,” Edi said.
For that reason, Unsoed has not yet taken further steps or a position regarding the sting operation. The campus chooses to wait for an official statement from KPK before determining the next action.
“Of course we will respect all legal processes, but regarding what it is like, let us wait from KPK,” he concluded. (aan/mzm)
