Labuan Bajo, en.SERU.co.id – Tourism activities in the Labuan Bajo area of West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), are confirmed to be running normally and safely for visitors following the recent earthquake. The assurance was given directly by Syaif from Flores Holiday Indonesia.
According to Syaif, although an earthquake occurred with its epicenter in the Manggarai area (Nagekeo), the direct geographical impact was concentrated in Manggarai and East Manggarai. Meanwhile, West Manggarai, particularly Labuan Bajo, is located at a relatively safe distance from the epicenter.
“Marine tourism activities are still normal. There is no sailing ban so far,” he said.
He further explained that all sea tourism and sailing activities in Labuan Bajo face no restrictions or prohibitions, given that the majority of the area’s main destinations are marine based.
“Air transport is also monitored as safe without obstacles, with flight operations running normally as usual,” he stated.
Syaif also expressed gratitude that so far, no Travel Warning has been issued for tourists wishing to visit Labuan Bajo. Even so, there has been an adjustment on the land route toward Ruteng. While activities in the city center and coastal areas of Labuan Bajo remain safe, the land route has been adjusted for safety considerations.
“Destinations or routes leading to Ruteng and mountainous areas close to quake-prone points are temporarily closed to anticipate potential follow-up landslides,” he added.

Syaif reiterated that tourism in Labuan Bajo, which is essentially sea-based, remains normal. However, routes toward Wae Rebo or upward to Ruteng are temporarily closed because they approach the earthquake route areas and as a precaution against landslides. Overall, the impact of the earthquake on the tourism sector in Labuan Bajo is assessed as very minimal.
In addition, transport routes have not been closed entirely because paths other than those toward Ruteng or Wae Rebo remain open. The closures were made because of several landslide points or potential landslides in areas near the Reo region. Meanwhile, the distribution of aid continues to run.
“The areas directly affected include Borong, Ruteng and Reo. Therefore, visits by both domestic and international tourists are now gradually returning to normal and are monitored as conducive,” he concluded. (dik/mzm)
