Malang, en.SERU.co.id – Forest and land fires sweeping through Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) have scorched roughly 742 hectares as of Monday, 10 August 2026. Combined teams continue fighting the blazes from both the ground and the air, with more than 24,000 liters of water already dropped on the main hotspots.
Gatot Soebroto, head of the East Java Provincial Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), said the affected area currently stands at about 742.70 hectares, though the figure is still being updated. The flames have destroyed characteristic vegetation including mountain pine (cemara gunung), mentigen, acacia and dense undergrowth.
“The burned area is approximately 742.70 hectares (the data is still developing as re-surveying continues),” Gatot said.
To speed up containment, crews are combining ground attacks with aerial water bombing. Around 24,000 liters drawn from Ranu Regulo Lake have been dumped on three priority zones: Pakis Bincil Dingklik, the Penanjakan area and P30.
In response to the emergency, park authorities temporarily closed all tourist entrances to Mount Bromo from 22:00 WIB on Saturday, 8 August 2026. The closure remains in place until further notice.
Ground teams drawn from East Java BPBD, Surabaya Fire Department, Malang Regency BPBD, Basarnas, Pasuruan Regency BPBD and other agencies are concentrating efforts in the Ranupani and Dingklik sectors.
Strong winds are pushing the fire rapidly across the slopes, while the steep, rugged terrain makes it hard for crews on foot to reach every hotspot. Thick smoke and fog are also reducing visibility for helicopters carrying out water drops.

“We hope to keep wetting the points that are still producing smoke. From experience over the past few days, the fire usually dies down in the morning and afternoon and then reappears in the late afternoon and evening,” he explained.
“The water bombing operation on 10 August 2026 will be adjusted according to weather conditions, particularly visibility and wind speed, while prioritizing flight safety,” Gatot added.
Support continues through ground crews, drone and Cassa aircraft monitoring, plus coordinated logistics and refueling.
East Java BPBD confirmed there have been no casualties. Comprehensive firefighting efforts remain under way, with the safety of aircrews and personnel on the ground as the top concern. (wul/ono)
