Miami, en.SERU.co.id — The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the US Department of Justice are conducting a preliminary investigation into the Argentine Football Association (AFA) regarding alleged financial violations in the United States.

According to an exclusive investigation by Argentine newspaper La Nación, published on July 7, authorities are examining how the AFA — led by president Claudio “Chiqui” Tapia — moved more than $300 million through American banks and companies.

According to the report, investigators are looking into whether some of these transactions could amount to money laundering or bank fraud.

“Federal prosecutors and FBI agents have begun taking testimonies about the financial operations of the AFA in the United States,” sources with direct knowledge told La Nación.

The probe centers on TourProdEnter LLC, a Florida-based company that managed international commercial contracts for the AFA. Banking documents reviewed by La Nación show that at least $260 million moved through five major U.S. banks — Citibank, Synovus, Bank of America, JPMorgan, and PNC Bank — with another $57 million in transfers whose purpose is still under scrutiny.

One source familiar with the matter told La Nación that authorities are trying to “reconstruct how the AFA operated in the United States and whether any of those operations may have constituted crimes under U.S. jurisdiction.”

As of Wednesday, no criminal charges have been filed. The FBI and the U.S. Department of Justice have not issued any official comment on the investigation.

The investigation has drawn additional attention because it surfaced during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which Argentina is competing in as defending champions. There is currently no indication that the investigation involves the national team or its players.
