Salatiga, en.SERU.co.id — Senior artist and member of Commission I of the House of Representatives Jamal Mirdad got a firsthand taste of Salatiga’s signature cuisine during a working visit to the city.
On Saturday (27/6/2026), at the Mayor’s official residence, he was served the local specialty Tumpang Koyor and couldn’t hide his delight at its bold, authentic flavor.
Made from tempe semangit cooked in thick coconut milk and enriched with koyor (beef tendons), the dish delivers a distinctive chewy texture and deep savory taste that left a strong impression on the veteran entertainer.
“Tumpang Koyor is outstanding. It’s incredibly unique and authentic. If promoted well, this kind of culinary gem could easily become a must-visit attraction for tourists, both from Indonesia and abroad,” Mirdad said.
He emphasized that nurturing local specialties like this would bring real benefits to the region.
“When these strengths are packaged properly, I’m confident Salatiga will become even more attractive to visitors,” he added.

Mayor Robby Hernawan, who hosted the event alongside his wife Retno Robby Hernawan (Chair of TP PKK Salatiga), explained that serving traditional food goes beyond mere hospitality — it’s part of an intentional “culinary diplomacy” strategy.
“We want every guest to experience the richness of our flavors and culture directly. Tumpang Koyor never fails to satisfy the palate, and it becomes a story that guests take home and share with others,” Robby said.
During the meeting, the mayor also highlighted Salatiga’s broader potential in tourism, creative economy, cultural heritage, and micro, small, and medium enterprises. He expressed hope that the visit would open doors for wider collaboration to position Salatiga as a growing destination for tourism, culture, and investment. (gts/mzm)
