Los Angeles, en.SERU.co.id — True Blood and Magic Mike actor Joe Manganiello (49) has finally opened up about his secret health battle that has lasted nearly a decade. Today, (25/6/2026), Instagram video and synopsis for his upcoming memoir, Manganiello revealed a series of autoimmune diseases that affect various organs of his body, as well as the side effects of treatment that he called “brutal.”

In a recent Instagram post and through details from his upcoming memoir Bloodlines (out October 13, 2026), Manganiello described how the conditions hit without warning. They affected his skin, thyroid, eyes, lungs, and digestive system, leading to chronic pain, multiple near-death scares, and a life-saving organ amputation. Doctors were left scratching their heads.

The treatments were especially tough. High-powered biologic drugs meant to help ended up making things worse.

“All their attempts to treat it with high-powered biological drugs only exacerbated my symptoms and then unlocked a host of brutal side effects that winded up plaguing me for years,” Manganiello said.

“And then in attempts to buy myself time. I underwent very serious operations and procedures that mutilated parts of my body and left me so weak at times that I couldn’t stand up or walk,” he continued.

“It was the most brutally difficult time of my life, one I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy, but also my greatest adventure,” Manganiello told People.

For a long time, only his closest family and friends knew what he was going through. He pushed through while still working in Hollywood, all while searching for answers that conventional medicine couldn’t provide.

When standard treatments fell short, Manganiello went down a different path. He explored shamans, ancient rituals, family history, and his own spirituality. Digging into his roots, including ancestors who survived the Armenian genocide, led him to think about inherited trauma and deeper connections between mind, body, and spirit.

Writing the book helped him process everything.

“The process of writing this book gave me the gift of perspective that helped me to see that my suffering was a cocoon from which I would emerge forever changed,” he said.

He hopes his story can offer some comfort to others.

“If you’re out there and you’re suffering, there’s hope,” Manganiello shared.

Bloodlines, published by Avid Reader Press/Simon & Schuster, mixes his health journey with reflections on family, masculinity, faith, and identity. It’s set to include an audiobook narrated by the actor himself.
