Batu, en.SERU.co.id — Rural tourism in Batu is gaining strong appeal as many travelers grow tired of manufactured attractions. One village now drawing particular attention is Tulungrejo in Bumiaji District, where natural scenery, local culture, and hands-on experiences are turning it into a standout destination.

Mohammad Dadi, chairman of the Batu City Tourism Village Forum (Fordewi), says a short one- or two-day visit is not enough to fully enjoy what Tulungrejo offers. He recommends a complete three-day, two-night itinerary to explore the entire charm of the village.

On the first day, visitors arrive in Tulungrejo and begin at Selecta Recreation Park, a historic Dutch-era landmark long considered an icon of Batu tourism and the foundation of the city’s sport tourism.

“Here, travelers can enjoy beautifully arranged flower gardens framed by cool mountain air and take a nostalgic swim in the historic pool,” Dadi said.

Later in the afternoon, guests move to Dusun Kuliner along the main road toward Cangar. The site features an old-village concept dominated by teak-wood structures and surrounded by apple orchards and vegetable gardens. Visitors can relax with a cup of hot coffee or traditional drinks.

“Signature dishes such as sego sambel and Indonesian snacks can be enjoyed while taking in the evening atmosphere against a beautiful mountain backdrop. The place also offers wooden-house style accommodation,” he added.

Day two focuses on interactive activities that connect visitors with Tulungrejo’s local agro-tourism potential. Guests can join an educational mushroom cultivation tour and learn about the growth cycle, seeding techniques, and hygienic harvesting methods.

“Usually, the people who come to the mushroom cultivation tour are students and PKK women,” he said.

No trip to Batu feels complete without the sensation of picking produce independently. Travelers can harvest strawberries or apples straight from the trees in local gardens.

“In the past these apple orchards were only used for conventional farming. Now apple-picking tourism is widely known. Visitors not only get the experience of picking fruit directly from the tree, but also receive education about apples straight from the farmers,” he continued.

On the third day, the trip closes with a Fun Jeep Offroad package through community plantations. The route follows rocky dirt roads on the slopes of Mount Arjuna and cool forest paths leading to the natural hot springs at Cangar.

“Exploring the dense pine forest by Jeep gives a unique adrenaline rush while closing the three-day, two-night holiday in Tulungrejo with a refreshing feeling,” he said.

Dadi also noted that today’s travelers tend to seek new experiences and impressions that stay in the heart. Developing tourism villages like Tulungrejo offers closeness to nature, education, and mountain landscapes that do not quickly become boring. Through this itinerary, visitors not only enjoy recreation but also help drive the people’s economy at the village level.

“Collaboration between natural beauty, man-made attractions that harmonize with the environment, and active involvement of the local community is the main key to sustainable tourism progress in Batu,” he concluded. (dik/ono)
