Malang, en.SERU.co.id – Authorities at Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park have temporarily closed two main entrances to the popular tourist area. The move aims to support ongoing efforts to extinguish a forest fire and ensure visitor safety.
The blaze broke out in Blok Bantengan on 3 August 2026 around 5 p.m. local time. In response, park officials decided to shut access points from Lumajang and Malang regencies.
“To allow firefighting operations to proceed smoothly and to prioritise visitor safety, tourism access to Bromo through the Jemplang and Coban Trisula gates in Malang, as well as the Senduro gate in Lumajang, is closed to the public,” said Bambang Suriyono, Head of Administration at the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Office, on Tuesday (4 August 2026).
Visitors may still enter the park through the Cemoro Lawang gate in Probolinggo and the Wonokitri gate in Pasuruan. However, they are only permitted to visit designated areas such as the Sea of Sand and are not allowed into the Savana zone.
The temporary closure took effect from 10 p.m. on Monday, 3 August 2026, and will remain in place until further notice.

Bambang also appealed to the public, tourists, and tourism operators to help protect the national park from further fires. He stressed the importance of careful use of fire for the safety and comfort of everyone.
“We ask the community, visitors, tourism service providers, and all related parties to take this seriously and act responsibly,” he added. (wul/mzm)
