Malang, en.SERU.co.id – The City Government of Malang (Pemkot Malang) has announced plans to report the suspected theft of a permanent iron bench in the Kayutangan Heritage area to the police. This measure aims to create a deterrent effect and raise awareness among irresponsible individuals who damage or steal public facilities.
Malang Mayor Wahyu Hidayat stated that, according to reports received, one unit of the iron bench is believed to have gone missing. The facility forms part of the local government’s assets, installed specifically to enhance visitor comfort in this popular heritage tourism zone.
“We will verify again, as this involves the loss of an asset. We will report it directly to the police so that it fosters greater public awareness,” Wahyu emphasized.
He stressed that the disappearance of public amenities harms not only the government but also the broader community that relies on these shared spaces.
In addition to pursuing legal action, Pemkot Malang intends to launch public awareness campaigns encouraging residents and visitors to help protect the facilities provided for everyone’s benefit.
“We will also conduct socialization efforts with the community, because it is the public that enjoys these amenities,” he added.
According to the mayor, the iron bench was procured using funds derived from public taxes, making it a collective asset that must be safeguarded by all. He expressed hope that similar incidents would not recur.
“We will handle the matter in accordance with regulations. For now, the report concerns only one item. Hopefully this single case will be the last. We will proceed with the process and strengthen supervision involving Satpol PP [Civil Service Police Unit] and local police officers,” Wahyu further noted.
To prevent future thefts or vandalism in public spaces, the Malang City Government is planning to bolster security measures in the Kayutangan Heritage area. This includes increased involvement from the Satuan Polisi Pamong Praja (Satpol PP) and closer coordination with local police.
Additionally, an evaluation of existing security systems for public facilities will be conducted to identify vulnerabilities and implement stronger preventive strategies. (wul/ono)
