“Various education, talent development, and financial literacy programs run by CIMB Niaga have very strong relevance to the characteristics of Malang City. We believe that quality education will open access to better opportunities and improve the quality of life. As well as encourage the birth of a next generation that is able to make a positive contribution to the nation,” said Joni, as he is popularly known, to SERU.co.id.

CIMB Niaga has provided various programs and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the field of education. This is a tangible form of CIMB Niaga’s contribution in creating an excellent and highly competitive young generation.

CIMB Niaga Scholarship Program

One tangible form of CIMB Niaga’s support for the world of education is through the CIMB Niaga Scholarship Program. It has been held continuously for decades since 2006 until now.

“This program aims to expand access to quality education for outstanding students from various regions and socio-economic backgrounds in Indonesia. Not only providing educational cost assistance, but this program is also designed to help scholarship recipients develop their personal capacity, leadership, and readiness to enter the professional world,” explained Joni.

In 2025, CIMB Niaga provided scholarships to 50 selected students from 24 public and private universities spread across 12 provinces in Indonesia. The recipients were selected through a strict and competitive selection process from a total of 20,068 applicants.

The CIMB Niaga Scholarship Program simultaneously supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Number 4: Quality Education. Since it was first launched in 2006 until 2025, the CIMB Niaga Scholarship Program has provided benefits to 1,327 students from various universities in Indonesia.

“This program is aligned with CIMB Niaga’s goal, namely supporting the birth of a young generation that is excellent academically, has character, integrity, leadership spirit, and social concern,” explained Joni.

Capacity Building and Leadership Development for the Young Generation

This program is different from ordinary educational assistance. Its excellence lies in a comprehensive approach to student development. In addition to educational cost assistance for four semesters, scholarship recipients also receive various benefits, including:

  • Assistance in preparing the final assignment.
  • Laptop facilities to support learning activities.
  • Financial literacy training through the Be $mart program.
  • Opportunities to take part in volunteering activities.
  • Leadership and soft skills development.
  • Opportunities to become a Brand Ambassador of the Scholarship Program.
  • Access to the scholarship recipient alumni community.

Through these various activities, Joni continued, scholarship recipients gain experiences that can help them in many ways. These include developing critical thinking, communication, collaboration, leadership, and concern for the community.

Building Indonesia’s Young Talent Ecosystem

CIMB Niaga’s commitment to education does not stop at providing scholarships. The company also builds a Talent Ecosystem that connects the world of education with the world of work.

Through this approach, students can gain experience and understanding of the professional world from an early stage. Various programs that form part of this ecosystem include:

  • The Complete Intern.
  • MagangHub, which is part of the national apprenticeship program.
  • CIPTA (Apprenticeship Program).
  • The Specialist Program.
  • The Complete Banker.

These programs provide opportunities for the young generation to develop competencies. At the same time, they prepare themselves to face an increasingly competitive and technology-based world of work.

CYNERGY Scholarship Alumni Community

As a form of long-term commitment, CIMB Niaga formed a scholarship recipient alumni community named CYNERGY in 2024.

“This community becomes a platform for alumni to stay connected, learn from each other, share experiences, build professional networks. As well as carry out various social activities that are beneficial for the community,” explained Joni.

In 2025, CYNERGY carried out a number of capacity development programs, including:

  1. Digital Marketing training for Financial Literacy Ambassadors.
  2. Mentoring program for prospective scholarship recipients.
  3. Public Speaking workshop.
  4. Fun Run activity in collaboration with the Kejar Mimpi South Tangerang Community. Through this community, the benefits of the CIMB Niaga Scholarship Program continue even after recipients complete their study period.

Financial Literacy for Students and University Students

In addition to access to formal education, CIMB Niaga also views financial literacy as an important part of the life provisions of the young generation.

For that reason, CIMB Niaga actively organizes various financial education programs aimed at increasing the understanding of students and university students regarding:

  • The importance of a saving culture.
  • Personal financial management.
  • Financial planning.
  • Utilization of formal financial services.
  • Digital transaction security.
  • Basic investment literacy.
  • Awareness of various forms of digital financial fraud.

The ability to manage finances from a young age is considered increasingly important amid the rapid development of technology and digital transformation.

Support for the KEJAR Program

CIMB Niaga also supports the One Account One Student (KEJAR) Program initiated by the Financial Services Authority (OJK). This support is realized through:

  • Provision of student savings products,
  • Education on the importance of saving,
  • Improvement of financial literacy in the school environment, and
  • Utilization of digital banking services that are easily accessible to the young generation.

Through this program, CIMB Niaga hopes that more and more Indonesian students will become accustomed to managing finances wisely and have access to formal financial services from an early age.

Relevance for Malang City as an Education City

All of these initiatives have very strong relevance to the characteristics of Malang City as one of the largest education cities in Indonesia.

“As a city inhabited by hundreds of thousands of students and university students from various regions, Malang needs an ecosystem that is able to support sustainable human resource development. Both from the academic aspect, skills, leadership, and financial literacy,” explained Joni.

Through the CIMB Niaga Scholarship Program, young talent development, financial literacy, support for the KEJAR program, as well as various other education initiatives, CIMB Niaga seeks to contribute to the creation of a young generation that is excellent, adaptive, and ready to face future challenges.

“In line with the purpose Advancing Customers and Society, CIMB Niaga believes the best investment is investment in people. Therefore, for 71 years of serving Indonesia, CIMB Niaga continues to be committed to supporting the progress of education. As one of the best ways to realize a more advanced and competitive future for Indonesia,” concluded Joni. (rhd)
