The overhaul was not merely a change of a number of strategic positions. As many as 27 senior officers were directly inaugurated on Saturday evening, 3 October 2026. Of that number, 19 of them filled the positions of regional police chiefs (Kapolda).

Head of the Public Information Bureau of the National Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, said the step was related to the needs of the National Police. In particular, it was to move more quickly in facing community dynamics.

“It means speed in accordance with the community’s expectations regarding the dynamics needed by the community toward the National Police. This is also one of the ways to answer the community’s challenges,” said Trunoyudo, as quoted from detikcom on Sunday, October 4, 2026.

According to Trunoyudo, Suyudi wants to ensure that the presence of the National Police is increasingly felt in the midst of the community. The principle of “Police with the People” is one of the emphases brought by the new National Police Chief in the implementation of police duties.

All Kapolda in Java Replaced

One of the most striking signs of Suyudi’s first overhaul is the replacement of all Kapolda on the island of Java. The six Regional Police offices in Java now have new leaders.

At the Metro Jaya Regional Police, the position of Kapolda was entrusted to Inspector General Pol Dadang Hartanto. He previously served as Kapolda of Maluku. Dadang is a graduate of the 1994 Police Academy and a professor of Public Administration Science at Muhammadiyah University of North Sumatra (UMSU).

Meanwhile, the position he left in Maluku is now filled by Inspector General Pol Suwondo Nainggolan. Dadang replaced Commissioner General Pol Asep Edi Suheri, who now holds the position of Inspector of General Supervision of the National Police. Asep previously led the Metro Jaya Regional Police since August 2025.

A change also occurred in East Java. Metro Jaya Regional Police Deputy Chief Inspector General Pol Dekananto Eko Purwono was promoted to Kapolda of East Java, replacing Inspector General Pol Nanang Avianto. Dekananto had just been promoted to the rank of Inspector General in September 2026 through Presidential Decree Number 82/POLRI/Year 2026.

In West Java, the Kapolda seat is now occupied by Inspector General Pol Hengki, who previously led the Banten Regional Police. The position of Kapolda of Banten was then given to Brigadier General Pol Hendra Kurniawan. He previously served as Principal Level II Police Instructor at the National Police Education and Training Institute.

Meanwhile, the Central Java Regional Police is led by Brigadier General Pol Roy Hardi Siahaan. He replaces Inspector General Pol Ribut Hari Wibowo, who was transferred to become Deputy Head of the National Police Education and Training Institute. The Yogyakarta Special Region Regional Police is now led by Inspector General Pol Langgeng Purnomo.

Riau is led by Inspector General Pol Arman Achdiat, Riau Islands by Inspector General Pol Suhendri, Jambi by Inspector General Pol Widodo, and West Sumatra by Inspector General Pol Jawari.

Changes also occurred in a number of Sulawesi regions. The South Sulawesi Regional Police is led by Inspector General Pol M. Awal Chairuddin, Central Sulawesi by Inspector General Pol Rizal Irawan. Then West Sulawesi by Inspector General Pol Totok Suharyanto and Gorontalo by Inspector General Pol Nurworo Danang.

Meanwhile in eastern Indonesia and Bali, the position of Kapolda of Maluku is filled by Inspector General Pol Suwondo Nainggolan. East Nusa Tenggara by Inspector General Pol Reza Arief Dewanto and Bali by Brigadier General Pol Pasma Royce.

In addition to Kapolda positions, Suyudi also rotated a number of Deputy Kapolda. Among them are Brigadier General Pol Adex Yudiswan as Deputy Kapolda of Metro Jaya, Brigadier General Pol Rachmad Iswan Nusi as Deputy Kapolda of West Java, and Brigadier General Pol Rustam Mansur as Deputy Kapolda of East Kalimantan.
