The two culinary heavyweights, once known for their explosive clashes, are now working together again. Their reconciliation has attracted widespread attention from fans and media alike.
The Infamous Tears That Started It All
Their complicated history dates back to the late 1980s, when a young Gordon Ramsay worked as a sous chef under the legendary Marco Pierre White at the acclaimed London restaurant Harveys.
The most talked-about moment came on Ramsay’s final night in July 1989. According to White’s 2006 autobiography, the intense pressure boiled over, leaving Ramsay in tears. White recalled yelling at him, after which Ramsay reportedly crouched in the corner of the kitchen, sobbing and saying, “I don’t care what you do to me… Hit me. I don’t care. Sack me. I don’t care.”
Ramsay’s team at the time confirmed there was “some truth” to the story, noting he was only in his early 20s and still finding his feet in the brutal world of professional kitchens.
Years later, in a June 2026 appearance on The Louis Theroux Podcast, White offered his side of the story with a mix of humor and reflection:
White joked, “He made himself cry. He was chopping onions at the time.”
But he also acknowledged the emotion of the moment:
“It was highly emotional for him. He did say to me, ‘I don’t care Marco, just f***ing hit me, whatever’. He was very upset. It was 30-plus years ago.”

From Bitter Rivals to Collaborators
The pair’s relationship soured further in the following decades. Ramsay once named White as the person he “most disliked” in his own memoir, and the two traded barbs in the press.
Now, that chapter appears closed for good. White has spoken warmly of Ramsay, calling him a “great technician” whose plates are always “clean… tidy… and consistent” — high praise in the Michelin-star world. He even described the Hell’s Kitchen star as “a beautiful boy” and revealed that Ramsay sent him a touching message during a difficult time for White’s family.
“The Gordon Ramsay the press wants to talk about is not the Gordon Ramsay I know. Gordon Ramsay, as far as I’m concerned, is a beautiful boy.”
Most tellingly, the two chefs have moved beyond words — they’re back in the same kitchen, this time in front of the cameras. Recent sightings show them filming together alongside Heston Blumenthal for a new television project reportedly titled Rise of the Rockstar Chefs or The Rock N Roll Chef.
The renewed partnership marks an unexpected new chapter for two of Britain’s most influential chefs, whose rivalry once defined an era of professional kitchens.
