Malang Strengthens Tourism with Second Tour Guide Development Program

​Malang, en.SERU.co.id – As competition in the tourism sector heats up, Malang Regency is investing in its most important asset: its tour guides.

The Tourism and Culture Agency (Disparbud) of Malang Regency, in collaboration with the Malang branch of the Indonesian Tour Guides Association (DPC HPI), has launched the second edition of the Tour Guide Development Program. The three-day intensive training runs from June 10 to 12, 2026, at the Pendopo of the Malang Regency Government.

Firmando Matondang, Head of Disparbud Malang Regency, officially opened the program and highlighted the critical role tour guides play in the industry.

“Tour guides are the frontline of our tourism service and the face of our destination’s promotion. That’s why improving their knowledge and service quality is absolutely essential,” Firmando said in his opening remarks.

The program brings together 50 local tour guides from various districts across Malang Regency. Participants, who represent key attractions such as Desa Wisata Wringinanom, Desa Wisata Gubugklakah, Desa Wisata Poncokusumo, Coban Sewu, and the Malang Southern Tourism Area, are receiving comprehensive training that blends theory and practical skills.

Topics include Geotourism, PPGD and First Aid, digital promotion strategies, and Public Speaking. Beyond classroom sessions, active members of DPC HPI Malang are sharing real-world best practices, from on-the-ground guiding techniques and professional ethics to delivering exceptional service to visitors.

Aris Rahma Cita Wimanda, S.S., M.Pd., Chair of DPC HPI Malang Raya, popularly known as Mbak Cita, emphasized that the program reflects the organization’s commitment to continuously upgrading the capabilities of its members.

“This collaboration with the local government is a concrete step toward building a sustainable tourism ecosystem in Malang. Through this program, we hope to develop a new generation of professional tour guides who can serve as capable ambassadors for our region, both for domestic and international travelers,” she said.

Cita added that high-quality tour guides are a direct reflection of a destination’s overall tourism standards. By consistently enhancing their competencies, Malang aims to elevate its tourism industry to become more professional and globally competitive.

The initiative underscores a growing recognition that well-trained, passionate tour guides are key to creating memorable visitor experiences and strengthening Malang’s position as a leading tourism destination.
