Malang, en.SERU.co.id – Malang City authorities are implementing strict operational limits on heavy goods transport vehicles starting Friday, March 13, 2026, through Sunday, March 29, 2026. The restrictions cover key arterial roads within the city and sections of toll roads used for Eid al-Fitr mudik (homecoming) and arus balik (return) flows during Lebaran 1447 H/2026 M.
The policy directly implements a national Joint Ministerial Decree (Surat Keputusan Bersama or SKB) issued by the Ministry of Transportation, National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas Polri), and Ministry of Public Works and Housing. This coordinated regulation aims to ensure smoother traffic, greater road safety, and reduced accident risks amid the expected surge in private vehicles and passenger buses.
AKP Rio Angga Prasetyo, Head of Traffic Unit (Kasat Lantas) at Polresta Malang Kota, emphasized that intensified monitoring will focus on city border points.
“We are tightening supervision of goods vehicles at city entry points as a preventive step to minimize congestion during peak mudik and return periods,” he stated.
To enforce the rules effectively, officers will install physical barriers or road dividers at selected strategic locations on border roads.
“Once barriers are in place, large goods vehicles will not be permitted to pass through those routes. This allows field officers to conduct optimal oversight,” AKP Rio explained.
The restrictions extend beyond city arterials to include toll road segments that serve as main distribution channels for mudik and balik traffic. By clearing these routes of heavy, slower-moving cargo trucks, authorities expect to lower traffic density and cut the potential for rear-end collisions or other incidents involving mixed vehicle types.
The core goal, according to AKP Rio, is to protect road users and provide more comfortable travel for families heading home for Lebaran.
“We urge full compliance from all parties so we can achieve smooth, safe, and orderly traffic together,” he stressed.
Supporting the police effort, Head of Malang City Transportation Agency (Dishub), Widjaja Saleh Putra, confirmed full backing for the SKB implementation.
“Dishub Kota Malang stands ready to collaborate with the police—from monitoring to enforcement—if any violations occur,” he said.
Importantly, the ban does not apply to vehicles carrying essential community needs. Exemptions include tankers transporting fuel (BBM), LPG cylinders, and trucks distributing staple foods or other critical basic commodities (sembako).
This carve-out ensures supply chains remain stable and prices do not spike during the holiday period when demand for essentials often rises. (rhd)
