Malang, en.SERU.co.id – Indonesian cyclist Muhammad Syelhan Nurrahmat, a student at Universitas Insan Budi Utomo (UIBU), has achieved a historic milestone by securing a gold medal. He claimed the top spot in the prestigious Asian Road Cycling Championship 2026, held in Al-Qassim, Saudi Arabia, in February 2026.
Competing in the Men’s Under-23 (U23) Individual Road Race category, Syelhan finished first after completing a challenging 124.8-kilometer course. This victory highlights his remarkable progress, demonstrating enhanced maturity in race strategy and endurance.
UIBU Rector Dr. Nurcholis Sunuyeko, MSi, emphasized that such international student achievements align with the university’s focus on impactful education. Syelhan’s success adds to UIBU students’ growing list of contributions on the global stage, proving that academic and professional development can go hand in hand.
“Achievements like this show that education must deliver real-world impact. Students don’t just learn in classrooms—they grow and contribute in professional competitive arenas,” said the rector, affectionately known as Sam Rektor, in an official statement to SERU.co.id.
This accomplishment by the UIBU student from the Physical Education, Health, and Recreation (PJKR) program came after fierce competition against riders from various Asian countries. It marks a significant step in his international competitive journey.
“The concept of an impactful campus is evident when students can apply the skills gained in their studies to national and international levels,” he added.
According to the rector, this Asian championship title extends Syelhan’s impressive streak over recent months. In December 2025, he played a key role for Indonesia’s contingent by winning a gold medal at the SEA Games 2025 in Thailand. He also finished 11th in the Individual Time Trial (ITT) event.
“We are incredibly proud of this achievement. We extend our highest appreciation to this UIBU student,” affirmed the rector, known for his generosity. (rhd)
