Doha, Qatar — en.SERU.co.id — The Apatte62 team from Universitas Brawijaya (UB) has once again brought pride to Indonesia by winning top honors at the Shell Eco-marathon Asia Pacific and the Middle East 2026, held at the Lusail International Circuit in Doha, Qatar, from Wednesday to Sunday, 21–25 January 2026.
Apatte62 Brawijaya claimed 1st place in the Prototype Hydrogen category and 2nd place in the Safety Award for the Urban Electric category.
Remarkably, they became the only team from the Asia Pacific and Middle East region in the Urban Electric category to qualify for the Shell Eco-marathon Global Championship 2027. It is a historic first for any team in the region.
Devin Indra Kurniawan, spokesperson for the Apatte62 team, expressed the group’s joy and pride:
“We are extremely happy and proud to represent Universitas Brawijaya and Indonesia on the international stage. This year’s judging was significantly stricter than in previous editions. So this result truly exceeded our expectations,” Devin said in an official statement.
He highlighted that in the Prototype Hydrogen category, the team not only secured 1st place but also set a new Asian record with the highest-ever score in that class. This achievement has greatly motivated the entire team, especially after receiving confirmation of their qualification for the 2027 Global Championship.
The team’s strong focus on innovation also earned them 2nd place in the Safety Award category, further securing their ticket to the global event.
Out of 72 competing teams from countries across the Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions, the delegation from the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Brawijaya (FT UB) delivered an outstanding performance.
The Shell Eco-marathon is widely regarded as one of the world’s most prestigious student competitions in the field of energy-efficient vehicle design and sustainable transportation technology.
“This success clearly demonstrates that Indonesian students can compete at the highest global level, particularly in sustainable transportation technology,” Devin emphasized.
“It also proves that student research and innovation can make a real contribution to the future of clean energy worldwide,” he added.
Having earned their place in the Shell Eco-marathon Global Championship 2027, the Apatte62 Brawijaya team is determined to continue refining their technology, improving vehicle performance, and elevating Indonesia’s reputation even further on the international innovation stage. (rhd)
