Malang, en.SERU.co.id — Indonesia’s Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has officially launched the 2026 Friendly School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS Ramah), with the goal of turning every school into a true second home for students across all levels and types of education.
Education Minister Abdul Mu’ti said the program is part of the government’s broader push to create an ASRI (safe, healthy, clean, and beautiful) school environment where students feel secure and comfortable regardless of their background.
“Schools should be a safe and welcoming social, intellectual, spiritual, and physical space for all students. No matter their circumstances, school must feel like their second home,” Mu’ti said after opening the 2026 MPLS Ramah at SMK Negeri 2 Singosari.
He emphasized that schools serve as a meeting point for children from diverse backgrounds to learn, grow, and support one another while building strong character.
“They respect each other, help one another, and stay motivated to achieve their noble dreams,” he added.
A key feature of this year’s MPLS is its strong emphasis on a friendly approach. The ministry has explicitly banned any form of hazing, senior-junior intimidation, or harsh disciplinary practices.
“We must completely eliminate any hazing based on seniority or rigid discipline from MPLS. The implementation must remain under the coordination of each school principal, but we insist it be humanistic, inclusive, and participatory,” Mu’ti stressed.
Meanwhile, East Java Head of Education Aries Agung Paewai reinforced that MPLS activities must focus on genuinely introducing new students to the school environment, how teachers and students interact, and daily school life — all without any bullying or intimidation.

“That is the main objective, which is why the Minister himself led the opening ceremony — to set the right tone for these activities,” Aries said.
He also noted that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has suggested including lessons on integrity and honesty during the program.
“We want our children to understand that corruption harms the principles of integrity. This is part of our effort to introduce the concept of integrity from an early age,” Aries explained.
The launch signals a clear shift toward kinder, more supportive onboarding for Indonesia’s new students in 2026. (wul/ono)
