Surabaya, en.SERU.co.id – A solemn atmosphere mixed with the vibrancy of tradition colored the East Java Regional Police Headquarters (Mapolda Jatim) on Sunday, October 11, 2026. Inspector General Pol. Dekananto Eko Purwono officially began his duties as the new East Java Police Chief through a series of typical police welcomes and cultural art performances.

The welcome began with the draping of flower garlands on Inspector General Pol. Dekananto Eko Purwono and his wife, Mrs. Lenia Dekananto. The general’s steps were greeted by ranks of honor as well as the traditional pedang pora ceremony, which is a symbol of the highest respect from the police ranks to the new leader. The liveliness of local culture further enlivened the atmosphere through performances of jaranan art and Reog Ponorogo.

An emotional moment briefly captured the attention of the invited guests when Inspector General Pol. Dekananto, who was present accompanied by his two parents, personally pushed his mother’s wheelchair. Before stepping further, he knelt and performed sungkem before his mother as a form of filial piety and respect from a child.

In delivering his first statement before the media and ranks, Inspector General Pol. Dekananto expressed deep gratitude for the trust given to him to lead the regional police in one of Indonesia’s largest provinces.

“First of all, my presence at the East Java Regional Police is a trust from Allah SWT. This trust becomes a great responsibility for me to be able to carry it out well,” said Inspector General Pol. Dekananto.

He affirmed his commitment to continue various public-oriented work programs that had been pioneered by the previous leader, Inspector General Pol. Nanang Avianto.

“Many positive things have already been strengthened and left by Inspector General Pol. Nanang Avianto to provide the best for the people of East Java. Of course I will continue those positive things,” he said.

This two-star general also affirmed his vision to bring the East Java Regional Police into an institution that is more humanist, inclusive, and responsive. He openly invited the people of East Java not to hesitate in providing constructive input for the improvement of police performance.

“If I and all ranks of the East Java Regional Police do things that are less pleasing or less appropriate in acting, I ask to be forgiven and given correction. We will respond and follow up on that input,” he stressed.
