Jakarta, en.SERU.co.id – Universitas Brawijaya claimed first place and MAN 2 Kota Malang secured third place in the Indonesia Sharia Forum Olympiad (ISFO) 2026. The event is an initiative of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) to strengthen the younger generation as drivers of sharia economic principles, products, and financial services. One of the main components is the sharia financial quiz competition and the Young Sharia Entrepreneur competition.

OJK Executive Head of Business Conduct Supervision, Education, and Consumer Protection Dicky Kartikoyono said his institution continues to strengthen sharia financial literacy and inclusion in Indonesia. This is done by encouraging greater understanding and awareness among young people of the sharia finance sector.

“Through the sharia financial quiz competition, participants sharpen the knowledge and understanding of the younger generation. Through the Young Sharia Entrepreneur competition, that understanding is applied into ideas, innovations, and economic activities that provide real benefits for the community,” said Dicky at the Peak of the Indonesia Sharia Olympiad 2026 themed “Learn, Innovate, Elevate,” held at Plaza Insan Berprestasi, Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Hall, Jakarta, on Thursday, 24 September 2026.

ISFO 2026 Participant Interest Increases

Dicky explained that ISFO 2026 was attended by 11,952 participants, or nearly 12,000 people, who formed 4,030 teams from across Indonesia. Compared with the previous year, the number of participants rose by around 12 percent and the number of teams increased by approximately 15 percent.

“These figures are not merely statistics. They are a reflection of the great enthusiasm of the younger generation to learn, hone their abilities, and contribute to improving sharia financial literacy in Indonesia,” he said, accompanied by OJK Malang Head Farid Faletehan.

Furthermore, Dicky emphasized that the greatest value of the competition is not solely about becoming a champion, but the learning process that has been undergone. According to him, what is more important is the emergence of a younger generation that is:

  • CAKAP (capable), meaning they understand finance;
  • BIJAK (wise), meaning they are able to choose according to their needs and abilities;
  • PRODUKTIF (productive), meaning they are able to create added value and drive economic growth; and
  • TERLINDUNGI (protected), meaning they understand their rights and risks, are able to transact safely, protect personal data, and recognize various forms of fraud in the digital financial ecosystem.

Appreciation from the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education

Minister of Primary and Secondary Education of the Republic of Indonesia Prof Dr Abdul Mu’ti MEd stated that Indonesia has very large social capital in the form of an educated, creative, and productive young Muslim generation.

“Indonesia has very large social capital in the form of a group of young Muslims who are educated, creative, productive, generous, and have strong idealism. This potential will become the main driver of the development of Indonesia’s sharia economy in the future,” said Minister Abdul Mu’ti.

According to him, the sharia economy is not about the accumulation of wealth in the hands of a few people, but about the distribution of economic benefits that can be felt by all layers of society. However, one of the major challenges ahead is expanding sharia economic inclusion to all segments of society.

“The hope is that the younger generation will be able to manage finances wisely, build productive businesses, and become a generation capable of creating added value for the nation and the state,” he said.

In a similar vein, Minister of Cooperatives of the Republic of Indonesia Ferry Juliantono said cooperatives are a highly relevant business entity alternative for the younger generation. He believes that the improvement of sharia financial literacy and inclusion must be accompanied by strengthened access to financing and the provision of adequate economic platforms.

“Cooperatives can become one of the highly relevant business entity alternatives for the younger generation. Cooperatives are not only a means of gathering and working together, but also an instrument for strengthening sustainable community economies,” said Ferry, who is also Daily Chair of the Sharia Economic Society (MES).
