Nonthaburi, Thailand, en.SERU.co.id – A student opened fire at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Bang Kruai district, Nonthaburi province, on the morning of Aug. 7, 2026, after allegedly shooting and killing his grandparents at their home. Three teachers and three students were killed in the school attack, while 15 others were injured.
Police identified the suspect as a Mathayom 3 (ninth-grade) student at the school. According to Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong Phiwphan, spokesman for the Royal Thai Police, the suspect later died after shooting himself. Fifteen people were injured, including two in serious condition, and were taken to nearby hospitals.
In an earlier statement, Trairong said:
“The situation is now under control. We confirm six people have died. There is only one perpetrator, who is currently receiving medical treatment,” as reported by The Standard.
Gunfire was first reported between approximately 9:30 a.m. and 9:50 a.m. local time. An 18-year-old student who was present told Reuters he initially mistook the sounds for firecrackers.
“I didn’t think it was a gun at first. There were many shots: bang bang bang. Then it went quiet. Then it started again,” he said.
Witnesses described the suspect as wearing the school’s purple physical-education uniform. He fired multiple rounds inside the school grounds and in a pink building before barricading himself on an upper floor. Police and the Arintaraj 26 special operations unit secured the campus and evacuated students and staff.
Investigation and Official Response
Investigators recovered a 9mm CZ 75 Compact handgun at the scene. Trairong said the firearm was registered to a family member, while authorities were still investigating how the suspect obtained it.
“At this point we only know the weapon is registered to a family member. How the perpetrator obtained it and the details of that process are still under investigation,” he said.
Lt. Col. Dechrapee Kongdee, Nonthaburi provincial police commander, earlier confirmed to Reuters that the suspect was a student at the school.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul described the incident as “terrible” and expressed condolences.
“This is an incident that should never have happened. I would like to express my condolences over the deaths,” he told reporters at Government House, according to The Nation. Anutin said the event reinforced the government’s policy of not renewing certain firearm licenses. He directed officials to provide immediate care for the injured and sent psychological support teams to the school.

Debsirin Nonthaburi School enrolled about 3,100 students and employed 147 teachers in the 2025 academic year, according to district authorities.
Police continue to examine CCTV footage, interview witnesses, and investigate the motive. Authorities have asked the public to avoid the area and refrain from livestreaming the scene.
