Malang, en.SERU.co.id – Students of Universitas Negeri Malang (UM) once again achieved national success in technology competitions in September 2026. The REV Team from the Faculty of Engineering UM emerged as the Overall Champion of the Indonesian Electric Car Competition (KMLI) 2026, while other teams secured awards at the Indonesian Flying Robot Contest (KRTI) 2026. These accomplishments were gained through competitions that tested students’ abilities in design, performance, and technology development.

In KMLI 2026, held at Politeknik Negeri Bandung from 20–25 September 2026, the REV Team of FT UM successfully claimed the Overall Championship. The team accumulated achievements through First Place in the Design Category, First Place in the Acceleration Category, and Second Place in the Climbing Power Category.

Director of Student Affairs and Alumni of UM, Prof Dr Eng Ir Siti Sendari ST MT, expressed appreciation for the students’ achievements in the two competitions. According to her, the results are the product of students’ collaboration in developing innovative ideas.

“All the results obtained are the product of the students’ smart work in collaborating with the team and realizing innovative ideas,” said Prof. Siti, as quoted from the UM website on Tuesday, 29 September 2026.

This achievement demonstrates the ability of UM students to develop electric vehicles that do not rely solely on performance. They also pay attention to design and engineering aspects. The vehicle development process involved the direct application of academic knowledge in the design and testing of the vehicles.

The development of the electric car involved several fields of knowledge, ranging from mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, and electrical systems to design and vehicle systems. The competition provided a space for students to test their designs while facing technical challenges under real conditions.

UM’s achievements did not stop at KMLI. At KRTI 2026, which took place from 21–25 September 2026 in the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) area and at the Kalimantan Institute of Technology (ITK) in Balikpapan, UM students again brought home awards.

Cakrawala Team 2 UM secured Second Runner-Up in the Fixed Wing Division. Meanwhile, Team WISANGGENI UM received the Best Spirit award in the Vertical Take-Off Landing (VTOL) Division.

KRTI 2026 was attended by 94 student teams from 43 universities. Participants competed in five divisions: Racing Plane, Fixed Wing, Vertical Take-Off Landing (VTOL), Technology Development, and Long Endurance Low Altitude (LELA).

In the competition, students were challenged to design, build, test, and operate unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to complete missions according to the categories they entered.

Prof. Siti hopes that the experience of participating in the competitions can serve as valuable preparation for the students. In particular, it can help them further develop the prototypes they have created and test their reliability under real conditions.

“The realization of the prototypes that have been conceived can be tested for reliability in a real environment. Hopefully the KRTI and KMLI 2026 events can become valuable experiences for all students,” she added.

For information, Cakrawala Team 2 was strengthened by Adryan Hidayatullah and Firzi Yuhardian Saputra from the Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering program, along with Ahmad Setyo Putra from the Bachelor of Industrial Engineering program. The team was supervised by Andika Bagus Nur Rahmah Putra SPd MPd.

Meanwhile, Team WISANGGENI was accompanied by Putra Wisnu Agung Sucipto ST MT, with Adryan Hidayatullah, Firzi Yuhardian Saputra, and Ahmad Setyo Putra as the core team. This team was also supervised by Andika Bagus Nur Rahmah Putra SPd MPd. (aan/mzm)
