Malang, en.SERU.co.id – PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Daop 8 Surabaya recorded 895 foreign tourists using trains across the Malang Raya region during the 2026 Lebaran transport period. The figure represents a 22 percent increase compared to the Christmas and New Year 2025/2026 holiday season, indicating growing preference for rail travel among international visitors.

Manager of Public Relations for KAI Daop 8 Surabaya, Mahendro Trang Bawono, said the movement of foreign tourists was concentrated at several main stations. Stasiun Malang handled the highest number with 767 passengers, followed by Stasiun Malang Kota Lama with 74 passengers.

“Stasiun Lawang served 28 foreign tourists, Stasiun Kepanjen served 25, and Stasiun Sumberpucung served 1 passenger. These stations connect tourists to various leading destinations in Malang and its surroundings,” Mahendro stated in an official release on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

He added that seamless intermodal integration has become a major supporting factor. From the stations, tourists can easily continue their journeys using city buses, taxis, ride-hailing apps, or regular bus services.

“This increase reflects foreign tourists’ confidence in Indonesia’s railway services. It shows that trains are increasingly becoming a safe, comfortable, and reliable transportation choice,” he said.

According to Mahendro, the connectivity of the rail network combined with strong intermodal links provides significant added value, particularly in supporting the tourism sector.

“Besides boosting mobility, this surge in foreign tourists also brings positive economic impacts to the local economy. Activities in the hotel, culinary, and MSME sectors have received a strong boost,” he added.

Malang Raya is well-known for its diverse attractions, ranging from mountain tourism, beaches, rich cultural heritage, and culinary delights. Reliable rail transportation further strengthens regional connectivity and offers greater convenience for visitors.

Concluding his statement, Mahendro reaffirmed KAI’s commitment to continuously improving service quality.

“We invite the public and tourists to keep choosing trains as their preferred mode of transportation. KAI is ready to be part of every travel journey while contributing to local economic growth,” he said.

Moving forward, KAI Daop 8 Surabaya is committed to delivering even better services through upgraded station facilities, enhanced journey comfort, and stronger intermodal integration — all aimed at providing the best experience for every customer, including international tourists. (aan/rhd)
